Question 1

What is an llms.txt file?

Accepted Answer

It's a markdown file at the root of your site that tells AI tools which pages matter most.

It lives at yoursite.com/llms.txt.

Question 2

How do I create an llms.txt file?

Accepted Answer

Type your domain above and press Read my site, then keep the pages you want and download the file.

Upload it to the root of your site.

Question 3

Do AI assistants read llms.txt?

Accepted Answer

Google says its search doesn't use it, and I found no statement from OpenAI, Anthropic or Perplexity saying their assistants do.

Those same companies publish one for their own docs.

Question 4

Does llms.txt help my Google rankings?

Accepted Answer

No, Google says it neither helps nor hurts your rankings.

It's for AI tools and agents, not search.

Question 5

Where do I put the llms.txt file?

Accepted Answer

At the root of your site, so it opens at yoursite.com/llms.txt.

Serve it as plain text.

Question 6

What's the difference between llms.txt and llms-full.txt?

Accepted Answer

llms.txt is a short map of links, and llms-full.txt holds the pages' full text in one file.

The generator builds both.

Question 7

Why check my robots.txt first?

Accepted Answer

A crawler your robots.txt keeps out can't read the pages your llms.txt lists.

The generator shows which AI crawlers are let in.

Question 8

Does llms.txt replace robots.txt?

Accepted Answer

It doesn't block a crawler or let one in.

robots.txt still decides what crawlers may read.

Question 9

What if my site has no sitemap?

Accepted Answer

The generator follows your home page's links instead, and the links on the first pages those lead to.

You can also start blank and add links yourself.

Question 10

How many pages should it list?

Accepted Answer

A shortlist of your best pages, not every page.

The generator reads up to 200 and ticks the 50 key ones, so the rest are there if you want them.

Question 11

Does my site need an llms.txt?

Accepted Answer

It's optional, since Google Search doesn't use it and no AI company has said its assistant reads it.

I'd still make one, because it takes a few minutes and you can hand it to any AI tool as your site's map.

Question 12

Can I edit the file before I download it?

Accepted Answer

You can change every part of it.

Tick or untick pages, rename sections, edit any title, address or note, and move sections and pages up or down.

Question 13

Do I need an account?

Accepted Answer

You don't need an account or an email.

Your draft stays in your own browser.

Question 14

Where do the search numbers come from?

Accepted Answer

They come from DataForSEO, a search data provider.

They cost me money, so each visitor gets three sites a day, and a site anyone checked this week shows at once.

Question 15

How often should I update my llms.txt?

Accepted Answer

Whenever you add or remove an important page.

Check the links again each time.

Question 16

Is my site's data stored?

Accepted Answer

No, it reads public pages only and keeps nothing.

Your draft is saved in your own browser.

Question 17

Is this llms.txt generator free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's free, with no sign-up.

Question 18

Accepted Answer
