What if one online event could grow your email list, build authority, and generate sales at the same time?
Thatโs exactly what a virtual summit can do.
I used this strategy to go from unknown creator to making millions of dollars online over the years. No big audience. No ads. No team.
More importantly, my students and clients have used virtual summits to generate tens of millions in sales and millions of email subscribers. Many of them started from scratch.
In this guide, Iโll break down what a virtual summit is, why it works so well in 2025, and how you can use one to launch or grow your creator business.
Letโs get into it.
Table of contents
What is a virtual summit?
๐
A virtual summit is an expert-led online event where people register to access video interviews or sessions โ typically for free. Most online summits run for 1 to 7 days, with 5โ7 days being ideal when starting out. The most effective model offers free access with an optional upgrade or related digital product on the backend.
After someone registers, they get access to the sessions as they go live.
Most summits release new sessions each day and keep them available for 24 to 48 hours.
But you donโt have to follow that format.
Some hosts keep all sessions unlocked. Others publish them on YouTube to grow their channel and brand.
What matters most is the value you deliver upfront and how you structure the backend offer.
In my AI for Creators summit, I released sessions on a schedule throughout the week and published each one on YouTube as it went live.
Instead of taking them down, I kept them publicly available โ and still generated six figures in sales from a related AI Super Bundle offer (and upsells).
I also added thousands of qualified subscribers to my email list and grew a brand-new YouTube channel to over 2,000 subscribers in just one week.
Thatโs the power of the summit model.
Youโre not just hosting an event โ youโre building a Virtual Summit Flywheel that keeps working long after the summit ends.
Email list growth, content repurposing, evergreen traffic, product sales, and relationship-building at scale โ it all feeds back into your business and compounds over time.
And itโs only getting bigger.
Experts predict the virtual events market will hit a staggering $400 billion by 2027, which is pretty crazy if you ask me (in a good way).
Plus, over 77% of people prefer virtual over in-person events, thanks to the accessibility and flexibility it provides.
You donโt need a massive audience, expensive setup, or paid ads to make this work. Just the right strategy and a few key experts to get started.

A virtual summit is more than an online event.
Itโs the fastest way to grow your email list, influence, income, and impact โ all at once.
Itโs how you scale your personal brand and online business.
Without ads. Without a big audience. Without burning out.
How large is a typical summit event?
Online summits typically range from a few hundred to 10,000+ attendees. Some of the largest can even attract hundreds of thousands of registrations. The ideal size depends on your audience reach, speakers and partners, the summitโs focus, and the goals you’re aiming to achieve.
For example, a hyper-targeted, niche summit on a specific topic might only need a few hundred people to be considered successful. On the other hand, summits that address broader industry-wide topics can attract thousands.
๐ก
Pro tip: The impact of your summit doesnโt end when the event finishes. Turn it evergreen and repurpose the content to continue expanding your reach long after the summit is over.
How much does it cost to host a virtual summit?
The cost of hosting a virtual summit can vary, but you donโt need a massive budget to pull off a successful event. Many creators and entreprenurs launch their first summit with just a few hundred dollars โ or even less.
While big virtual conference platforms often advertise prices that can reach $10,000 or more, thatโs typically because they want you to sign up for their all-in-one services.
The reality is, you can host a virtual summit with lean, creator-friendly tools โ especially if you already have a mic and camera (a recent smartphone is more than good enough to get started).
The key is to focus on delivering value, not spending on expensive software. Thatโs what will truly drive results.
With Virtual Summit OS and my done-for-you templates, it’s even easier to create a professional-looking summit and get it up and running in no time.
I provide everything you need to launch, from templates to tools, so you can focus on what matters: delivering incredible value to your audience.
๐ก
Pro tip: Use creator tools like Riverside, Ecamm Live, or Descript for high-quality session recordings with your summit speakers. These options are budget-friendly and ensure your summit looks professional without the hefty price tag.
How does a virtual summit work?
Hereโs how a typical virtual summit work, step by step:
- People register for free: You drive traffic to a simple yet powerful landing page where people opt in with their name and email. This is where the list building starts a 2-3 weeks before the event starts.
- Theyโre instantly taken to an upgrade offer: Right after signing up, attendees see a limited-time offer for your Premium Pass or related product. Using tools like Deadline Funnel, you can create urgency with a special price (e.g. $67 for 14 minutes, then it goes up). This generates sales before the summit even starts.
- A bump offer is added to the cart: On the checkout page, you can include a lower-ticket bump ($27โ$37) to increase average order value without any extra friction.
- Sessions go live over several days: Your pre-recorded interviews with speakers are released on a schedule โ typically over 3 to 7 days. You can keep them available for 24โ48 hours or leave them up permanently (like I did with my AI for Creators summit on YouTube).
- Sessions drive engagement and momentum: Each day builds anticipation. People watch, learn, and share the event โ driving more signups, more sales, and more authority for you as the host.
- Bring in sponsors (optional but powerful): If your summit has a clear niche and solid positioning, sponsors will want in. For example, we brought in over $20,000 in sponsorships for the AI for Creators summit โ without even trying that hard. This isnโt required, but itโs a great way to cover costs or boost profit upfront (we got paid a few months before the summit started).
- You monetize on the backend: Attendees can upgrade at any point. You can also offer one-click upsells, bundles, or launch a related product. While the Premium Pass or a bundle offer brings in early revenue, the real profit often comes from selling a high-ticket course, coaching program, or membership โ either during or right after the summit.
- Your summit becomes a product: The content youโve created โ with the help of your speakers โ can be packaged into a digital product, bonus, or evergreen funnel. Your speakers become co-creators in the process, even if you donโt have a product to start with.
- The flywheel kicks in: You now have a growing email list, a profitable offer, and high-value content. You can repurpose everything across YouTube, podcasts, email, blog or other social channels โ and relaunch your summit, turn it evergreen, or use it to launch your next offer.
This is how one online summit becomes a long-term engine for visibility, revenue, and growth.

One virtual summit can build your email list, grow your authority, and sell your offer.
But when done right, it becomes a flywheel that scales your brand for years.
Benefits of virtual summits
Virtual summits have become one of the most powerful tools for creators to grow their audience, sell digital products, scale their business and personal brand.
But why are virtual summits so effective?
And whatโs the top benefits why you should consider hosting your own online summit?ย
Well, it all comes down to 13 big reasons (and there are many more than this too I wonโt have time to get into hereโฆ)
๐จ Reason #1: Build a large, engaged email list fast
- Get thousands of targeted and engaged leads in a matter of weeks.ย
- Built in shareability (people WANT to tell others about it).ย
- Virtual summits are the fastest and most reliable way to โget paidโ to build a large, highly engaged email list of buyers, even if youโre starting from scratch – โthe summit listโ.
Screenshot example here
๐ Reason #2: Raise your visibility
- Put your business on the map as you reach thousands of new people with your summit content.ย
- Grow your audience of targeted people who are genuinely interested in your topic.ย
- Get your name seen widely in your niche and become known as an action- taker.
โฅ๏ธ Reason #3: Build rewarding relationships with influencers
Itโs a lot easier to get a reply from your personal heroes when you can give them something back (exposure in a video for example).ย
Virtual summits allowed me to connect with people I could only dream of, and at the same time itโs led to some amazing people getting in touch with me. Without YouTube, I doubt our paths wouldโve ever crossed ๐คย
Life is really about connections and interactions, and virtual summits are genuinely a brilliant way to supercharge both.
- Connect with and get to talk to industry leaders one-on-one.ย
- Build authentic and mutually beneficial relationships.ย
- Become a connector so youโre seen as the person to know.
๐ Reason #4: Become an authority
- Position yourself on the same level as other influencers.ย
- Cement your reputation as an industry expert by your association with them.ย
- Authority builds trust and connection with your audience, so that your business can grow.
๐ Reason #5: Get raving fans and lifelong customersย

- Create almost unbreakable trust and authority.ย
- Intense, daily communication built into the virtual summit system trains your followers to expect to hear from you and TAKE ACTION.
๐ฐ Reason #6: Create a quality product you can sell
- Generate a profit WHILE you build your audience, trust and authority.ย

- 10X your income with a backend offer and bring in even more revenue with sponsorships.

Reason #8: Virtual summit business model
- The audience you build is your own and can be leveraged over and over again to become your entire business model.ย
- Additional revenue streams that flow seamlessly to and from your other offerings.ย
- There is no single point of failure and it can still be a success even if you get a lot of things wrong, with momentum building with each subsequent summit.
๐ Reason #9: Work anywhere in the world
When the world isnโt ending, you might be someone who dreams of/enjoys traveling, or you might just prefer staying home instead of braving the daily commute.ย
Either way, all you need is a laptop and camera and you can work from anywhere at any time. Itโs pretty cool.

Who are virtual summits for?
Virtual summits arenโt just for big influencers or tech companies. They work for creators, coaches, and online entrepreneurs in almost any niche.
Whether you’re just starting out or already established, summits help you grow faster โ without ads, a big list, or complicated funnels.
Some of my students have hosted profitable summits in niches like:
- Harp music
- Play therapy
- Tennis coaching
- Insurance
- Nutrition
- Women’s strength training
- Remote work
- Self-publishing
- SEO
- And 100’s more!
They didnโt start with big audiences. Most had no product, no email list, and no connections. But they still launched successful summits that built their list, generated sales, and positioned them as trusted authorities in their space.
If youโre a content creator, coach, consultant, course creator, or even a service provider โ a summit can help you grow your email list, launch your first (or next) offer, and build influence in your niche.

You donโt need a big audience to launch a successful summit โ just the right topic, the right people, and a strategy that delivers value at scale.โ
You donโt need a list, product, or audience to launch a virtual summit.
All you need is a topic people care about and a few experts to guide the way.
Key features of profitable virtual summits
After hosting multiple six-figure virtual summits and helping hundreds of students create their own, I’ve identified these crucial features that make or break summit success:
- Specific niche focus โ Don’t go with “Fitness Summit” or “Sports Summit” but rather “Women’s Strength Summit” or “Tennis Summit”.
- Strategic speaker selection โ Blend of rising stars, established experts, and industry leaders.
- High-converting summit funnel โย Optimized customer journey from registration to premium pass purchase.
- Value-packed sessions โย Provide actionable content your audience can implement immediately.
- Multi-layered offer strategy โ Premium pass, strategic bundles, bump offers, and one-click upsells can work really well.
- Automated email sequences โย Have a clear strategy for pre-summit, during-summit, and post-summit email communications.
- Effective affiliate promotion system โ Easy-to-use swipe copy and graphics for speakers and partners to share with their audience.
- Optimized registration page โย Clear value proposition and strategic social proof (quotes from industry experts also work really well).
- Relationship-based approach โย Win-win partnerships with speakers, not transactions
- Strategic Post-Summit Plan โ Content repurposing, backend offers, and evergreen conversion systems to maximize your summit ROI.

You donโt need a list, product, or audience to launch a virtual summit.
All you need is a topic people care about and a few experts to guide the way.
Online summit vs conference
In person events build authority but are unscalable
Webinars grow your email list but have low perceived value
Podcasting is remote but doesn’t generate many leads or revenue (unless you already have a platform and are one of the big ones already)
virtual summit achieve all the benefits of a webinar, in-person event, and a podcast without any of the downsides
knowledge industry is how many billions
virtual summits gave me financial freedom and location indepence that I dreamt of.
Summit vs other event formats: Whats the difference?
Coming soon
Virtual summit vs webinar
- Webinars are usually a single live or automated presentation, often used to sell or teach one specific topic.
- Virtual summits are multi-speaker, multi-session events that deliver far more value and engagement over several days.
- Takeaway: Webinars are great for quick wins. Summits build massive authority, reach, and email lists.
Virtual summit vs virtual conference
- Virtual conferences are typically large-scale, formal events with breakout rooms, networking features, and sponsors.
- Virtual summits are leaner, more focused, and easier to host โ especially for creators and solopreneurs.
- Takeaway: Conferences = corporate. Summits = creator-friendly, high-leverage list builders.
Virtual summit vs online course
- Courses are structured learning products you sell or drip over time.
- Summits are free (or paid) multi-day events designed to build buzz, grow your audience, and pre-sell offers.
- Takeaway: Courses are a product. Summits are a powerful launch strategy to sell courses (or anything else).
Virtual summit vs podcast
- Podcasts are ongoing content channels focused on long-term brand building.
- Summits are one-time (or seasonal) events with built-in urgency and virality.
- Takeaway: Podcasts build slowly. Summits create momentum fast and help you launch or relaunch bigger.
Virtual summit vs physical conference
- Physical conferences require venues, logistics, travel, and higher budgets.
- Virtual summits can be hosted from your laptop, often for a fraction of the cost.
- Takeaway: Summits give you global reach without the overhead or complexity of in-person events.
Virtual summit vs virtual workshop
- Workshops are usually short, live sessions with deep dives on one topic.
- Summits bring together multiple speakers and topics, often with less live interaction.
- Takeaway: Workshops are great for hands-on teaching. Summits are better for scale and audience growth.
How virtual summits changed my life
I know that a virtual summit can exponentially grow your audience, influence and revenue because my students and I are living proof of it. ย
When I started out online, I tried everything. I was blogging, podcasting and doing anything I could to see some results but nothing really gave me the results I was looking for.ย
It wasn’t until I focused all my time and energy on creating my first summit that things started to turn around.ย
For a few months, I worked tirelessly on creating my first summit, The Branding Summit.ย
My very first virtual summit that helped me finally go full-time with my online business!
At first, I wasn’t sure if it would work.
I wondered if anyone would agree to speak. I wasn’t sure if people would come. And I had doubts about anyone buying the All-Access Pass.ย
But when my first sale came through and I got the payment notification, I knew I was onto something.ย
In the end, my first virtual summit generated:
- 3,000 new and engaged email subscribers
- $20,000 in profit from All-Access Pass sales (enough for me to quit my part-time job and move abroad.)ย
- An additional $40,000 in revenue the month right after the summit, mainly by promoting an affiliate product on the backend.ย

My new and engaged list was an asset I could use over and over.ย
Take a look at this graph showing the difference in my business before and after hosting a virtual summit.
4X my email list and double the revenue… not bad for a first effort.ย
Beyond the numbers, I created rewarding relationships with 80+ people in my niche, who would continue to help me pave the forward as I progressed in my business.ย
In fact, some of them came on board to speak again at my next summit, List Building School.ย
This virtual summit was an even bigger success, with 60+ world-class entrepreneurs and email marketing experts.ย
During the launch for List Building School, I generated 26,070 new email subscribers and sold over 2,135 All-Access Pass sales to generate around $180,000 in revenue.ย

Not bad for a couple of weeks, huh?ย
But it doesn’t stop there.ย
The real value was in the backend funnel I had in place for my new and engaged email list.
I introduced them to my premium Virtual Summit Mastery program and promoted a few programs as an affiliate to bring in an additional $700,000+ in revenue.

Women’s Strength Summit
Steph Gaudreau hosted the Womenโs Strength Summit to build an entirely new audience
around a topic she was passionate about. She brought together 24+ world-class female
experts to help other women build a strong body, mind and spirit.
The first summit she hosted grew her email list by 19,560 highly engaged email subscribers,
got 100โs of All-Access Pass sales and many pre-sales for her coaching program to bring in
$50,000+ in revenue.
She loved the summit model so much that she hosted the Womenโs Strength Summit again the year after with similar results (and even higher conversion rate).
Self-Publishing Success Summit
Chandler Bolt brought together 47 world-changing authors and entrepreneurs to reveal how to write, market and publish your first book and use it to get to 6 figures for the Self-Publishing Success Summit.
The summit skyrocketed his business, bringing in 25,000+ email subscribers. In total, he made over $300,000 in revenue from selling the summit All Access Pass and his high end program Self-Publishing School at the end of the summit.
The summit model has now helped him to build a multi-million dollar online business with over 100,000 highly engaged email subscribers.
Play Therapy Summit
Jen Taylor hosted the Play Therapy Summit with 20+ psychotherapists who shared
techniques for clinical of play therapy.
Something unique about this summit was the inclusion of continued professional development points for all access pass buyers, which increased the value proposition a lot.
There were over 4,500 registrations for the summit and revenue from All-Access Pass sales
alone was over 6-figures.
VSM student Jen Taylor who hosted the Play Therapy Summit and generated over $100,000 from just all-access pass sales alone (she didn’t have a backend offer or anything like that in place, and she started basically from scratch building up her online audience and email list).
Here’s what she shared after her successful summit:ย

Mastering Diabetes Summit
Robby Barbaro and Cyrus Khambatta co-hosted the Mastering Diabetes Online Summit
with 25 experts to help people with diabetes to learn how a low-fat, plant-based, whole-
food diet can help.
They had 26,000 participants for the summit and doubled their email list. They also almost
doubled the customer base and generated significant revenue with All-Access Pass and
backend sales.
Work at Home Summit
Caitlin Pyle hosted the Work-At-Home Summit for people who are thinking about making the leap to working at home and earn a full-time living.
The summit brought in 60,000 highly engaged email subscribers and made over $500,000
in revenue.
21 virtual summit myths & misconceptions
The most common places people get stuck when thinking about hosting their own virtual summits.
Category 1: Summits Donโt Work.
Category 2: Iโm not ready.
Category 3: I donโt have the resources.
(โ ๏ธ Warning โ be prepared for some heartbreak + potentially making the decision to host a virtual summit in the next few minutes)
Misconception #1: Summits are dead.
Common myth!
Summit producers: Neil Patel, Michael Hyatt, Ray Edwards, Marisa Murgatroyd, Ocean Robbins , Nick Ortner, Sean Croxton, Lewis Howes, Microsoft, Teachable, Thinkific and many more!
List Building School in September 2016 brought in multiple six- figures in revenue and generated over 26,000 opt-ins
My VSM students keep getting incredible results (see case study section)!
Virtual summits are FAR from dead. As I’ve proven throughout this guide, my students and I have had incredibly success with the virtual summit model, generating thousands of new email subscribers and revenue.ย
My VSM students keep getting incredible results as you’ve read about in this epic guide.
And that’s not all – there’s a good reason that some of the biggest names in the online space are hosting summits for the businesses. People like Neil Patel, Michael Hyatt, Ray Edwards, Marisa Murgatroyd, Chandler Bolt, Caitlin Pyle, Ocean Robbins, Nick Ortner, Sean Croxton, Lewis Howes, Microsoft, Google, Teachable, Thinkific, Drip, and many more!
It’s because they work! ;-)ย
Misconception #2: Summits only work in certain niches
- Summits work in virtually EVERY market
- Being the first to create a summit in your market gives you instant visibility
- Summits work world-wide
Misconception #3: Summits only work for specific types of businesses
- Summits work for professional service providers like insurance agents, lawyers and realtors to bring in more clients
- Summits work for service businesses to get you out of the โtime for moneyโ equation
- Summits work for info products/software businesses as a way to provide an excellent user experience
- Summits work for physical product creators as a way to create community
- Summits work for coaches, consultants and authors as a way to create an additional revenue stream, establish yourself as a leader, and create an audience (and email list) of loyal fans
Misconception #4: Summits are just not for me
I tried a summit before and it didnโt work/I already did one.
- Use a proven step-by-step system
- One summit is never enough! Each successive summit can be bigger and better
- Some people build their business (or business calendar) around an annual or biannual summit
Hosting a virtual summit is quite complex. When you try to do it all on your own, it can get overwhelming or you don’t know what to focus on.
That’s why you need to use a proven system.
When you know exactly what steps that you need to follow to get the results, you can focus on what’s important and finally see the end goal that you want.ย
Plus, one online summit is never enough… Each successive summit can be bigger and better! Some people even build their business (or business calendar) around an annual or biannual summit.

Misconception #5: Summits are โonlyโ for established businesses
- Summits are a great way to kickstart your business
- Test your niche and idea quickly
- Build a profitable email list and product FAST
Nuh-uh! Summits are a great way to kickstart your business.
Why? It allows you to test your niche and idea quickly so that you can see if it’s an area that you want to continue putting time and effort into.ย
It also helps you to build the perfect based in a new niche and establish yourself as an authority right from the beginning. In fact, I’d start ANY new business venture I wanted to do with a virtual summit.ย
Misconception #6: Summits are โonlyโ for new businesses.
Existing business can use summits to ramp up their email list and scale
Getting partners is much easier with an established business
Go from five to six figures, or six to seven figures — itโs up to you!
On the other hand, existing businesses can use summits to ramp up their email list and scale.
It has to be said that it is easier to get speakers and partners on board if you already have an established business.ย
An online summit can re-energize stagnant product sales and help you level up from five to six figures, or six to seven figures. You’ve just got to knuckle down and focus!ย
Misconception #7: You need an email list to host a summit.
- Your summit will help you build one FAST
- Leverage relationships with high-level affiliates and partners
- Summits can add 1000, 2000, 5,000 or even 20,000+ QUALIFIED subscribers in a matter of weeks
Misconception #8: You need to have an existing product.
- You donโt need an existing product to profit from your summit!
- Your summit will create a product for you (the speakers are essentially creating the content for you)
- Your summit all access pass/premium pass is a product on its own you can profit from
- Create a membership site based on the summit content
- Promote an affiliate product at the end/after the summit
- Create a group coaching program for summit attendees
- If you donโt have an existing course – launch a pilot/beta version after the summit
- Group coaching, or affiliate product on the backend
- Summit lets you figure out EXACTLY what your audience wants from you first (or next product)
Misconception #9: You need to be an established expert in your field.
- โExpertโ = having special skill or knowledge. If you know a little bit more than someone else, youโre an expert in their eyes.
- You donโt NEED to be an expert
- Hosting a summit in your industry can help MAKE you an expert
Misconception #10: You need to be well known to host a summit.
A very common doubt is that โnobody knows who I amโ.
- You will get a huge visibility boost from creating a quality summit
- Youโll be associated with influencers
- Youโll establish a positive relationship with industry leaders AND your target market
Misconception #11: Summits โonlyโ work in the US / for native English speakers
- Summits can be run successful worldwide
- Iโm not a native English speaker either!
- Your accent can help make you stand out (see Augustas case study!)
- You can host a summit in your native language in your home country.
I’m originally from Sweden, so was worried about this myself when I was planning my first summit. But as I and many of my VSM students have proven, this fear was unfounded.ย
Summits can be run successful no matter where in the world you are.
Weโve had numerous non-native English speakers create summits, as well as for international audiences. VSM students have hosted summits in Asia, Europe, North and South America, Oceania (Australia and New Zealand) and more.
Hereโs what VSM Graduate Sami had to say who hosted a health summit for the Finnish market in his native language:

Sometimes being a non-native English speaker can even work in your favor because it makes you stand out.ย
Check out this video testimonial
Misconception #12: You need to be a good interviewer / confident on camera
- Great time to practice
- Use slides rather than direct-to-camera
- Ask speakers to โpresentโ rather than be interviewed
Practice makes perfect! :-)
I’m a believer that anyone can do a good interview and present well on camera if they practice up and put the effort in.ย
That said, if you’re really against the idea of being on video you could use slides rather than a direct camera or ask speakers to do a presentation rather than be interviewed.
Alternatively, you could “run” ย the summit and get someone else to actually host the summit.ย
Misconception #13: You need a huge team to pull off a successful summit.
This couldnโt be further from the truth. Itโs not โtoo muchโ work to host a summit without a huge team.
- Summits can be as complex (or simple) as you want
- You can do most (if not all) of the work yourself
- Refer to the VSM contractors list for approved freelancers
Misconception #14: You need to be a tech wizard to figure things out
- If you can write a blog post and record a video, you can do this!
- It can be super-simple or super-techy
- We provide list of integrated solutions
- You can outsource what you donโt understand or want to do
Misconception #15: Summits are too expensive to launch and host
- Budgets range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars and up (with designer and other contractors etc.)
- YOU decide where you want to invest
- Low-cost options are still successful and valuable!
Honestly, a virtual summit is actually very budget-effective when you think about the return on investment (ROI) you get on it.ย
Unlike other list building methods, it get you results very fast and you usually end out in front, meaning you get PAID to paid an audience!
And we’ve had VSM students opt for very low-cost setups for their first summit and they are still successful. You can realistically put a summit together with a budget of a few hundred dollars, but you can also decide to invest more by hiring a designer and other contractors etc.ย
That’s your decision but as long as you are offering value to an audience, you can experience huge success.ย
