The 7 Freedoms
Lifestyle design: build a business that supports your life, not a life that revolves around your business
The 7 Freedoms breaks lifestyle design into 7 kinds of freedom, shows how I built each one, and what each one costs.
The 7 Freedoms is a book about lifestyle design: building a business that supports your life, not a life that revolves around your business.
It breaks freedom into 7 kinds, and each one comes from 12+ years of designing my own life as a global citizen, in 50+ countries.
In this summary, you'll learn:
- What The 7 Freedoms book is about
- The 7 freedoms, in the order the book takes them
- The 5 parts of the book
- How it fits with my other books
- Who should read it, and my favorite quotes from it
- Why I'm writing it
Let's start with what the book is about.
What is The 7 Freedoms book about?
The book starts with one test: what can you say no to? A client, a project, a place or a demand you don't want, without losing the life you need.
Freedom comes with responsibility, discipline and trade-offs. More of one freedom can cost you another: more income can take your time, and more travel can make closeness harder.
So every chapter shows what a freedom gives you and what it costs, then gives you one small experiment to run in your own life.
I design my life so I can say yes to what matters and no to everything else.
The 7 freedoms
These are the 7 pillars of lifestyle design, in the order I use them:
- Financial freedom. Enough money and earning options that no decision is forced by the next paycheck. Having choices, not millions.
- Time freedom. Control over your schedule, so your best hours go to your work, your health and your people.
- Location freedom. A real choice about where you live and work, including the choice to stay.
- Mental freedom. Clarity over your attention and your decisions, and the resilience to stay calm when setbacks come.
- Physical freedom. The energy and health to take part in the life you're building, now and later.
- Creative freedom. The space to make work that's yours, in your own voice.
- Social freedom. Choosing the people you spend your life with, and making time for them.
The 5 parts of the book
The book opens with the question every freedom comes back to: what would you stop doing if you safely could?
- Define freedom. What freedom costs, and a simple audit of where you have choice today.
- Create room. Financial and time freedom: enough to say no, income that fits your life, and systems that give you hours back.
- Choose your environment and mind. Location and mental freedom: where you live, and the attention and decisions you live with.
- Care for your body and your creative life. Physical and creative freedom: health you can keep on ordinary days, and work that stays yours.
- Build connection and keep your choices. Social freedom, the trade-offs between all 7, and your next 90 days.
The book closes on keeping those choices over time, as your work, your health and the people in your life change.
How it fits with the other books
I Am Navid tells my full story. The 7 Freedoms uses only the moments that help you make a choice, then turns to your life.
The Futureproof Creator teaches the business, AI OS the AI system behind it, and Human on Purpose how to stay true to yourself with AI. This book treats all of that as one part of a bigger life: your health, your people, your attention and your place in the world.
Who should read The 7 Freedoms
- Founders and creators who built a business and want it to support their life.
- Employees who want more choice over their time and money without quitting.
- Anyone thinking about living and working from anywhere, or about staying put on purpose.
- Parents, caregivers and anyone with real constraints who want more room within them.

Why I'm writing it
I've been designing my life around freedom since 2013, the year losing my younger brother Simon became the turning point that changed everything. Since then I've built an online business, lived as a global citizen and learned what each kind of freedom costs.
I've written about pieces of it on navid.me, in lifestyle design and time freedom. This book puts all 7 in one place, with the trade-offs I'd have wanted to know at the start.

FAQs about The 7 Freedoms
Have questions about The 7 Freedoms? Here are answers to the most common ones.
It's a lifestyle design book: how to build a business and a life that give you more choice, one kind of freedom at a time, and what each kind costs.
Financial, time, location, mental, physical, creative and social freedom, in that order.
Because without it, every other freedom is limited. If you don't control your income, you don't control your time. Financial freedom is having choices, not millions.
The power to choose, including the power to say no: to a client, a project, a place or a demand that doesn't fit the life you want. Read more in What does freedom mean to you?
No. The book shows options for employees, parents and anyone with real constraints. Location freedom includes the choice to stay.
Partly. Business is one way to build freedom, and the book gives equal weight to your health, your attention, your creativity and your people.
I Am Navid is my full story. The 7 Freedoms is a practical guide: it uses a few moments from my life, then turns to yours.
A little. AI shows up as one way to protect your time and your creative work, never as an 8th freedom or a tool you have to use. AI OS goes deep on it.
