A free time zone overlap calculator that finds the hours 2 or more places share, in each place's own time, daylight saving included.
Add 2 or more places to find their time zone overlap: the hours they share, in each place's own time.

This free time zone overlap calculator shows the hours 2 or more places share, in each place's own time.
Add up to 6 places, each with its own hours. It finds the overlap on the day you pick, daylight saving included, and draws everyone's day side by side.
Here's how much common pairs overlap, the daylight saving weeks that catch people out, and what to do when there's no overlap at all.
What is a time zone overlap?
A time zone overlap is the part of the day when everyone's hours line up across time zones.
With a team in Lisbon and a client in New York, both working 9 to 5, the overlap is 3 hours: 2 PM to 5 PM in Lisbon, 9 AM to noon in New York.
How much common pairs overlap
Here's the overlap for 10 pairs, with both places working 9 to 5:
| Places | September 28, 2026 | January 12, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| London and New York | 3 hours | 3 hours |
| Berlin and New York | 2 hours | 2 hours |
| New York and Los Angeles | 5 hours | 5 hours |
| Mexico City and New York | 6 hours | 7 hours |
| Bogotá and Lisbon | 2 hours | 3 hours |
| Dubai and London | 5 hours | 4 hours |
| Bangkok and London | 2 hours | 1 hour |
| Lisbon and Bali | 1 hour | None |
| Sydney and Los Angeles | 1 hour | 3 hours |
| Lisbon and Los Angeles | None | None |
The pairs change with the season because some places change their clocks and others don't.
Daylight saving changes the overlap
Countries change their clocks on different dates, and some never do. Here are the dates for 2026:
| Where | Clocks go forward | Clocks go back |
|---|---|---|
| March 8 | November 1 | |
| March 29 | October 25 | |
| October 4 | April 5 | |
| No change | No change | |
| No change | No change | |
| No change | No change | |
| No change | No change | |
| No change | No change | |
| No change | No change |
So for 3 weeks in March and 1 week in late October, the US and Europe are an hour closer than usual. Lisbon and New York get 4 hours instead of 3.
The calculator asks for a day for this reason. It uses your browser's own time zone data, so the dates are right.
Working with New York from abroad
If your clients are on US East Coast time, Latin America keeps the most of your day. Here's the overlap with New York, both working 9 to 5:
| Where you work | September 28, 2026 | January 12, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 7 hours | 8 hours | |
| 7 hours | 8 hours | |
| 7 hours | 6 hours | |
| 6 hours | 7 hours | |
| 3 hours | 3 hours | |
| 3 hours | 3 hours | |
| 2 hours | 2 hours | |
| None | None | |
| None | None | |
| None | None |
Asia works for US clients only if you work their hours, or your calls happen early in your morning.
Working with London from abroad
For European clients, most of Europe and Africa keep a full day, and the Gulf keeps half of it:
| Where you work | September 28, 2026 | January 12, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 8 hours | 8 hours | |
| 7 hours | 7 hours | |
| 7 hours | 6 hours | |
| 5 hours | 4 hours | |
| 3 hours | 3 hours | |
| 2 hours | 3 hours | |
| 2 hours | 1 hour | |
| 2 hours | 1 hour | |
| 1 hour | 2 hours | |
| 1 hour | None |
Da Nang is one of my favorite places to live as a nomad. It shares no 9-to-5 hours with New York, and 1 or 2 with London, so it suits work you can do on your own clock.
Where you base yourself also sets how long you can stay: check the visa-free countries map, and count your days with the 183-day rule calculator.
When there's no overlap
Add Singapore to Lisbon and New York, and 9 to 5 in all 3 has no overlap at all.
Then someone has to stretch, or the work moves to writing. Here's what works for remote teams:
- Share the early and late calls, so the same person isn't always up at 7 AM
- Write decisions down, so people in other zones don't wait for a call
- Record short video updates instead of meetings
- Keep 1 shared hour a week for the conversations that need a call
Change 1 place's hours in the calculator, say 7 AM to 3 PM in New York, and watch the overlap appear.

Own your time, or someone else will.
Who is the time zone overlap calculator for?
It's for remote teams, founders with clients abroad, and digital nomads who work with people back home.
If you're building a team across time zones, Chris Ducker's book on working with virtual staff is a good start:
On the road, pair it with the golden hour calculator for your shoots and the Schengen calculator for your days in Europe. See how I use AI to run my business from anywhere, what a global citizen is, and more tools on the free travel tools page.
