YouTube counts watch hours over a rolling 365 days, so hours from over a year ago drop out, and the dates assume your pace stays the same. Only public long videos count; Shorts, private, unlisted and deleted videos don't.

What is a YouTube watch time calculator?
A YouTube watch time calculator is a tool that works out when a channel reaches a watch-hour goal, from its views a day and its average view duration.
Watch hours a day are your long video views a day times your average view duration. The calculator divides the hours you still need by that.

What YouTube needs, and what changes in 2027
These are YouTube's own thresholds, from its help pages on eligibility and on the 2027 updates (read September 26, 2026):

Channels already in the program keep their place when the ads threshold rises. The 500-subscriber tier doesn't change.
What counts as watch time
Only watch hours on your public long videos count, per YouTube's help page on eligibility.
These don't count:
- Private, unlisted and deleted videos
- Ad campaigns
- Shorts, which have their own path in Shorts views
- Live streams that are unlisted, deleted, or not kept as a video
Why your watch hours can go down
YouTube counts the last 365 days, and the window rolls. Hours from over a year ago drop out, so a channel whose views are slower than a year ago can lose hours while it keeps uploading.
The calculator assumes your pace stays the same. Run it again every few weeks with fresh numbers from YouTube Studio.
How to reach 4,000 watch hours sooner
Your date moves on 2 numbers: views a day and average view duration. Raising either one brings it closer:
- Longer videos people finish. A 12-minute video watched halfway adds more than a 4-minute one watched in full.
- Series and playlists. One video that leads to the next keeps people watching.
- A clear first 30 seconds. Say up front what the video delivers, so the right viewers stay.
- Public live streams. Kept as a video afterward, their watch time counts.
