Key takeaways
What is a sentence expander?
A sentence expander is a tool that turns a short sentence into a longer one, or two, by adding the context and detail it implies.
It helps when a sentence is too bare to stand on its own, like a note you wrote for yourself.
How to expand a sentence
When longer is better, and when it isn't
Longer isn't always better. The blog posts I measured keep the middle sentence to about 13 words.
So expand a sentence when it's missing the why or the how, and split a version that runs past 25 words.
A real example
Here's the bare claim from the Try button:
Email lists beat social media for creators.
The three versions it wrote:
- Length
- 257%
- The longer sentence
- Email lists give creators a direct line to their audience. That way they avoid reliance on platform algorithms.
- Length
- 357%
- The longer sentence
- Because email lists reach subscribers straight to their inbox, creators bypass the noise of social feeds. This ensures their messages land where fans actually look.
- Length
- 286%
- The longer sentence
- With email lists, creators control who sees their content and when. It eliminates the gamble of social media's ever-changing reach.
Each one says why the claim is true, and none of them made up a number or a study to prove it.
Hit a word count without padding
A longer sentence should say more, not take longer to say the same thing. Filler like "in order to" or "it is important to note that" adds words a reader skips.
So when you need more words, add these instead:
- The why – the reason behind the claim, which the expander adds for you.
- An example – one from your own work, which only you can add.
- A number – with the source it came from.
Then check the result with the readability checker so the longer version stays easy to read.
How each version is scored
Every version is checked in your browser the moment it comes back, with no AI:
- Length – how long it is next to your original, as a percentage.
- Reads human – the engine behind my AI slop checker, which counts the patterns that give AI writing away.
- Real-post numbers – pick what you're writing, and its sentence length and reading grade show next to real blog posts, newsletters or LinkedIn and X posts I measured.
So you can pick the version that reads like a person and fits where it's going.
Sentence expander or paragraph expander?
The sentence expander works on a sentence or two. For a whole paragraph, the paragraph expander adds detail across all of it.
Who is the sentence expander for?
It's for anyone whose sentence needs more:
- Paragraph expander – anyone expanding a whole paragraph
- Sentence rewriter – anyone who wants the same length in new words
- Grammar checker – anyone checking the result for mistakes
And if you write from notes, it turns a bullet into a sentence a reader can follow.
