Tell me what your blog is about. I write blog names, check each one's .com and social handles, and score it out of 100.

Where you want the name

Instagram, Threads, X, Twitch and Reddit don't show it to a checker, so their chip links to the profile page. If the page is missing, the name is free.

A blog name is the first thing a reader sees in Google, and it usually becomes your domain too.

This free blog name generator writes blog names for your niche, checks each one's .com and social handles live, and scores it out of 100.

Here's how to use it, what Google says about site names, and how to pick one you'll keep.

key_takeaways.mdTL;DR

Key takeaways

Type your niche and get up to 20 blog names at once, each with a matching username.
Each name's .com and handles are checked live, so you see what's free.
Google asks for a site name that's unique and concise, never generic.
Keywords in a domain "have hardly any effect" on rankings, Google says, so pick for people.

What is a blog name generator?

A blog name generator is a tool that writes blog name ideas from your niche and your angle.

Mine checks the .com and the social handles of each name, then scores it so the best come first.

A real example

Here's the Try an example input: a blog about budget travel and slow travel, in the Creative style. The top five of the 15 names it wrote:

Trail Mirth

The .com
trailmirth.com, free
YouTube handle
Free
Lean Trails

leantrails.com, free

Slow Nomad

Budget Trek

budgettrek.com, taken

Taken
Wander Pace

68
The .com
wanderpace.com, taken

Trail Mirth and Lean Trails have both the .com and the YouTube handle free, so those are the 2 I'd look at first.

Slow Nomad reads well, but its .com is taken, and a blog whose domain doesn't match its name loses readers who type it.

What Google says about site names

Google shows a site name above your pages in search results, and it has 3 rules for picking one:

Choose a unique name that accurately reflects the identity of your site and isn't misleading for users.

Use a concise, commonly-recognized name for your site

Avoid using a generic name.

So "Best Travel Tips" is out, and a name that's yours alone is in. Use it the same way everywhere, from your logo to your home page title.

Does a keyword in the name help SEO?

Barely. Google's own SEO starter guide says "the keywords in the name of the domain (or URL path) alone have hardly any effect beyond appearing in breadcrumbs."

A keyword still tells a reader what the blog is about at a glance. Use one if it reads well, and skip it if it makes the name clunky.

Blog name or blog title?

They sound alike but do different jobs:

Blog name
What it is
Your brand, as Google shows it above your pages
Example
Budget Bites
Domain
What it is
The address people type
Example
budgetbites.com
Blog title
What it is
The title of 1 post
Example
21 Cheap Dinners Under $5

Keep the blog name and the domain the same when you can, so people who hear one can find the other.

How the score works

Every name gets a score out of 100, and you see each part of it. The parts weigh differently for a personal brand, a business and a creator:

A name that breaks a platform's rules is capped at 40, since you can't register it there. A platform I can't check counts as half free until you open its chip and see.

After you pick a name

Register the .com before you tell anyone, then claim the handles. The username checker checks one name on every platform at once.

Then set up your blog. My guide on how to start a blog walks through the rest.

Who is the blog name generator for?

It's for anyone starting a blog or a newsletter:

Pick the name first, then the domain and the handles follow.

Take it further

Want more ideas, or a second opinion on your favorite? These go further.

Blog name generator FAQs

Questions about the blog name generator? Here's what to know.

A blog name generator is a tool that writes blog name ideas from your niche.

This one checks each name's .com and handles live and scores it out of 100.

Start with your niche and the reader you write for, then generate names and keep the ones you'd say out loud.

Pick one whose .com is free.

Not much for rankings.

Google says keywords in a domain "have hardly any effect beyond appearing in breadcrumbs", so pick a name people remember.

Yes, domains allow hyphens, but not at the start or the end.

People forget them when they type, so a name without one is easier to find.

The blog name is your brand, on every page.

A blog title is the headline of one post.

You can, but the business name generator is built for it.

It writes and scores names for what a business does.

Try the domain availability checker.

It checks the name on other endings and the usual ways round a taken .com.

Use your name when you are the brand, like a personal blog or a coach's site.

Use a topic name when you might sell the blog or bring in other writers.

The names are yours to use, and nothing here claims them.

Check your country's trademark register before you build a brand on one.

Yes, it's free with no sign-up.

The AI names have a fair-use limit, and when it's busy you can paste the same prompt into your own AI.
