A name that breaks a platform's rules is capped at 40, since you can't register it there. A platform I can't check counts as half free until you open its chip and see.
How I check the .com and the handles
For the .com, I ask the registry that runs .com whether the name is registered. For TikTok, YouTube and GitHub, I read the profile page.
Instagram and X hide profiles from checkers, so their chip opens the page for you.
What makes a good business name
Say what you do, or hint at it, in a word or two. A made-up word that sounds like your business works too, and it's more likely to be free.
Check the .com before you fall for a name. If it's taken, the domain availability checker shows other endings and the usual ways round it.
