This free quote finder finds a quote by what it means, not only by its words. Type a topic or a feeling, or paste the post you're writing, and it brings back quotes that fit, each with who said it and where.
Quotes with a checked source come first and say where they're from: a book, a talk, a podcast, an essay or the person's own post. The rest say "Source: not checked yet" until I've checked them.

What is a quote finder?
A quote finder is a search for quotes. You describe what you want to say, and it finds lines by people who said it well.
This one searches by meaning. "Scared to start my business" finds quotes about fear, action and beginning, even when none of them uses the word "scared".
Why so many quotes online are wrong
Search "We are what we repeatedly do" and you'll find it under Aristotle on thousands of pages. Aristotle never wrote it.
Will Durant did, in The Story of Philosophy (1926), summing up Aristotle's ideas in his own words.
Quote sites copy each other, so 1 wrong name becomes thousands. That's why this finder says which quotes have a checked source and puts those first, and it leaves out lines like Durant's that are misattributed.

When a quote comes from a podcast or a talk, the finder keeps only what that person said, never the host's or a guest's words. A line counts only if it appears word for word in the source.

How to find a quote
Pasting your draft works best. The finder reads all of it and brings back quotes that say what your post says, so you can open with one or close with one.
Play quotes on the stage
The stage shows 1 quote at a time over a moving scene: a sunrise lake, snowy mountains, rain on the window, a city at night. Music plays if you turn it on, from uplifting to epic, piano to calm.
It opens on the quote of the day, the same for everyone that day. Use the arrows to move, Space to pause, F for full screen, and H to hide the buttons, so it runs like a screensaver while you work.
The scenes are the ones in my deep work timer, and the music is from Coverr's free library, credited on the stage.

The Top 25 tab ranks quotes by those picks, for everyone, 1 person or 1 topic. You get 25 picks an hour, so no one can push a quote to the top alone.
