What is a spell checker?

A spell checker is a tool that compares each word you write with the words it knows, and suggests the right spelling when it finds a mistake.

This one also catches words that should be one word or two, like "alot" for "a lot".

How to check your spelling

Check your spelling0/4

A real example

I typed this sentence with US English picked:

I definately recieve the colour report tommorow, and their going to love it. This is a example of a sentance.

The spell checker marked five words, each with its fix one click away:

MarkedFixed to
definatelydefinitely
recievereceive
colourcolor
tommorowtomorrow
sentancesentence

"colour" is right in UK English, so it's only marked because US English was picked. "their going" and "a example" show up too once grammar and clarity are ticked.

US or UK spelling?

The same word can be spelled two ways, so pick the English you write in first:

US EnglishUK English
colorcolour
centercentre
traveledtravelled
defensedefence

Pick US English and "colour" is marked as a mistake, and pick UK English and "color" is.

UK English lets both "organise" and "organize" stand, since Oxford spelling uses -ize, so the checker accepts both.

Words people often misspell

Here are words people often get wrong, with the spelling the checker gives for each:

MisspelledRight

occurenceoccurrence

accomodateaccommodate

Each one is marked as you type, and one click fixes it.

More than spelling

The spell checker marks spelling first. Tick the other kinds of mistake above the text, and it marks those too.

For the full check, with how your writing compares with real posts, use the grammar checker.

Is my text private?

The check runs in your browser, so your text isn't sent anywhere while it's checked.

It only leaves your computer when you press Fix it with AI, and I don't keep it.

Who is the spell checker for?

It's for anyone who wants every word spelled right:

And if you write for readers in another country, switch to their English and their spelling is checked.
