An image to prompt generator looks at a picture and writes the words an AI image tool would need to make it again.

This free image to prompt generator reads your image in a few seconds and writes one clear prompt, for any AI image tool or for the one you pick.

You can add an image any way you like, then send the prompt straight to my free AI image generator.

So here's how it reads an image, how I edit the prompt it writes, and what it's good for.

Key takeaways

A good prompt names the subject, the setting, the light, the colors and the style, in that order.
The prompt describes an image, so the new image will be close to the original, never a copy.
Edit the prompt before you use it: change one thing at a time and keep what works.
Use it on images you have the right to use, like your own photos.

What is an image to prompt generator?

An image to prompt generator is a tool that turns a picture into a written prompt for an AI image tool.

This one does three things:

  • Reads your image – the subject, setting, angle, light, colors and style.
  • Writes one prompt – 50 to 90 words, in plain descriptive language.
  • Hands it over – copy it, or open it in my AI image generator with one click.

You can pick the tool it's for, so the prompt reads the way that tool likes.

What it's good for

I use it most when I like the look of an image and want more in the same style.

It works well for:

  • A matching set – blog headers or slides that look like they belong together.
  • Learning to prompt – seeing which words describe light and style.
  • A starting point – a long, detailed prompt you then make your own.

If you'd rather start from an idea than an image, the AI image prompt generator writes one from a few words.

How to edit the prompt it writes

The first prompt is a description, so the new image will be close, never a copy.

I change one part at a time:

  1. Swap the subject to make it yours, like "a laptop" to "a podcast microphone".
  2. Keep the light and the style words, since those are what make the look.
  3. Add "no text" if the original had words in it.
  4. Make two or three versions and keep the best one.

Most of the time, two or three tries get you an image you'd use.

Can I use any image?

Use images you have the right to use, like your own photos or bought stock.

A prompt only describes a picture, but a near copy of someone else's work or a real person can still cause problems, so I keep it to style and mood.

How to use the image to prompt generator

It takes about a minute:

  1. Add your image. Drop it in, paste it, choose a file or use a link.
  2. Pick the tool it's for. Or leave it on any AI image tool.
  3. Write the prompt. It takes a few seconds.
  4. Copy it or make the image. "Make this image" opens it in my AI image generator.

Your image is shrunk in your browser first and isn't kept anywhere.

Who is the image to prompt generator for?

It's for anyone who works with AI images:

And if you post every day, saving the prompts that worked keeps your images in one style.
