What is an SEO checker?
An SEO checker is a tool that reads a web page and tests the things search engines look at: its title, description, headings, content, links and technical setup.
Mine also runs Google Lighthouse, so you get speed, accessibility and best practices in the same report.
How to check your page's SEO
What the SEO checker looks at
The report reads the raw HTML, without running JavaScript, the way most crawlers do. It looks at 4 groups:
- On-page – the title, meta description, H1, heading outline, words, image alt text, keyword density and internal links.
- Site basics – HTTPS, mixed content, noindex, canonical, robots.txt, sitemap, language, doctype, character set, the phone viewport and the favicon.
- Social sharing – Open Graph tags, the X card and links to your profiles.
- Local – LocalBusiness markup, when the page has a phone number or a map.
Each check shows the evidence it read, like your title and its length, so you can see why it passed or failed.
Google Lighthouse, in the same report
Lighthouse is Google's own test. It loads the page on a mid-range phone over a slow connection and scores performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO.
The report shows all 4 scores, the load as a film strip, and every audit that failed, with Google's explanation. When Google has enough real Chrome visits, you also see your Core Web Vitals from real people.
How the score works
The score is out of 100, from 5 parts: on-page counts 35, site basics 25, social 10, speed 15 and accessibility 15.
A warning is worth half a check's points. If Google can't load your page, speed and accessibility are left out, never counted against you.
Beyond the checks
The report also shows the page's heading outline, the words and phrases it uses most and where they appear, every link with its text, and the technology the page runs on.
Fix the top of the list first, then check again. The score moves as soon as your changes are live.
