This free schema markup generator builds JSON-LD for the types Google Search actually shows today, and checks it against Google's own rules as you type. It also checks the markup on any page you point it at.

Google changes these rules often. In 2026 it stopped showing FAQ rich results, and most generators still offer them as if nothing happened.

Here's what schema markup does, which types still earn something in Google, and how to add it without breaking anything.

Key takeaways

This schema markup generator builds JSON-LD for types Google Search shows today and checks markup against Google rules as you type.
Valid markup makes a page eligible, but Google does not guarantee that structured data will show up in search results.
FAQPage markup does no harm, but it earns nothing in Google Search anymore.
The tool checks every JSON-LD block on any page address and follows the links inside each block.

What is schema markup?

Schema markup is a block of code that tells search engines what a page is: an article, a product, an app or an event. It's usually written as JSON-LD, a single script block in the page's <head>.

Google uses it for rich results, like a price, a rating or a breadcrumb trail under a page's title.

Which schema types still work in Google

Each type below was checked against its own page in Google's documentation. The builder shows the same status the moment you pick a type.

Stars from reviews are only for reviews of something else. Google won't show them when a business marks up reviews about itself.

Google stopped showing FAQ rich results

FAQ rich results used to be the easiest win in SEO. Google limited them to well-known government and health sites in 2023, then removed them for everyone in May 2026.

FAQPage markup does no harm, but it earns nothing in Google Search anymore. HowTo is gone from Google's list too.

Valid doesn't mean shown

Google is clear about it: it "does not guarantee that your structured data will show up in search results, even if your page is marked up correctly." Valid markup makes a page eligible, and Google decides the rest.

Its first rule matters just as much: "Don't mark up content that is not visible to readers of the page." The builder only writes the fields you fill in, so mark up what's really there.

Google's AI optimization guide answers it directly: "Structured data isn't required for generative AI search, and there's no special schema.org markup you need to add."

It still says to keep using it, because "it helps with being eligible for rich results on Google Search."

How to add schema markup to your site

Add schema markup0/5

Most site builders and SEO plugins have a place for code in the <head>. Paste the block there, publish, then test the live address.

Check the markup you already have

Open the Check a page tab and type any address. You'll see every JSON-LD block on the page, the types in it, and what to fix.

It follows the links inside a block too, like a profile page that points to the person it's about. That's where most checkers give up.

3 mistakes to avoid

  • A free app with no price: Google's software app rules need a price, so set it to 0
  • FAQ markup for a rich result: Google no longer shows them
  • An online event for Google's event listing: Google's event rules need a venue with a street address

Schema markup is a block of code, usually JSON-LD, that tells search engines what a page is, like an article, a product or an event, so they can show rich results.

Yes, schema markup helps SEO by making a page eligible for rich results. Google doesn't guarantee it will show them, even when the markup is correct.

Each one carries what Google does with it today, read from Google's own pages.

Google still shows rich results for articles, breadcrumbs, organizations, profile pages, products, software apps, courses, events and videos, among others. The builder shows each type's status when you pick it.

No, Google no longer shows FAQ rich results. It removed them for everyone in May 2026, after limiting them to government and health sites in 2023.

You don't need schema markup for Google's AI features: its AI optimization guide says structured data isn't required for them. It still helps a page qualify for rich results.

Put schema markup in the page's `<head>`, as a script block of type application/ld+json. Copy the block from the builder and paste it there.

Test your schema markup with the Check a page tab here, then with Google's Rich Results Test on the live page. The Schema Markup Validator checks it against schema.org.
