Key takeaways
What is a random travel destination generator?
A random travel destination generator picks a place to go for you. It's a way out of endless comparing, or a game for a trip where the surprise is the point.
This one picks from real places people live and work in, and shows the facts that matter before you book: the weather that month, the internet and the travel advice.
Who is the random travel destination generator for?
It's for travelers who want a nudge:
- Digital nomad locations – nomads stuck between too many good options
- Visa-free countries – travelers who want to check the place their passport allows
- Climate finder – anyone who wants the surprise, as long as the weather is right
- eSIM finder – people who'll need data wherever they land
Once it lands somewhere you like, those tools help you plan the trip.
How to use it
It takes a few seconds:
- Pick the regions you'd go to, or leave them all on.
- Pick your month, so the weather shown is the weather you'll get.
- Press Pick a random place, and the stage shuffles and lands on one.
- Open its guide, or spin again.
To narrow it down more, add picks like beach, mild or fast internet on the main finder, then spin there.
Where it can send you
Here's what's in the draw, by region:
- Europe – 73 places, like Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Funchal, Madeira
- Asia – 35 places, like Busan and Taipei
- Latin America – 44 places, like Florianópolis and Bridgetown, Barbados
- North America – 13 places, like San Diego and Los Angeles
- The Middle East – four places, like Doha and Dubai
- Africa – seven places, like Grand Baie, Mauritius and Cape Town
- Oceania – nine places, like Gold Coast and Auckland
Every place in the draw has a video or photo, its weather by month and its travel advice.
Where the numbers come from
Every figure comes from an open source, and each place's page names its own:
- Weather – NOAA's monthly station summaries where a station is close, IDEAM's normals for Medellín, and NASA POWER's climate averages elsewhere
- Internet – M-Lab's open speed tests within 25 km of each place over the last 12 months
- Everyday prices – the World Bank's price level for the country, where 100% means US prices
- Safety – the US State Department's travel advisory level, with Levels 1 and 2 both counting as everyday travel
- Air – fine particles (PM2.5) from OpenAQ's open air quality data, the stations within 25 km whose license allows commercial use, each month's average since 2023
The videos and photos come from Pexels, Coverr, Pixabay and Wikimedia Commons, each credited on its place.
