What is an interview questions generator?
An interview questions generator is a tool that writes the questions for an interview from a few details: the role, the guest or the customer, and what you want to learn.
Most of them send one box to an AI and give back a list. This one writes to the method each kind of interview needs, then checks every question it writes.
What makes a good interview question?
Whatever the interview, the best questions share 4 things:
- Open. They can't be answered with yes or no. "What's your process?" beats "Do you have a process?"
- One thing at a time. 2 questions in one get half an answer.
- Neutral. "Don't you think email is the best channel?" tells them what to say.
- Specific. Ask about a real moment, a real project, a real number.
The generator checks every question for these, and for the rules of each kind below.
Job interview questions that predict performance
Structured interviews give every candidate the same questions and score the answers the same way. Google's re:Work guide says it plainly: "Structured interviews result in increased predictive validity and decreased differences between demographic groups."
It helps the people you turn down too. Google found that "rejected candidates who had a structured interview were 35% happier than those who did not have a structured interview."

Every question comes with a follow-up decided in advance and a rubric for a poor, borderline, solid and outstanding answer. That way 2 interviewers score the same answer the same way. Read Google's guide to structured interviewing.
Podcast and summit interview questions: my 4-part arc
I've interviewed hundreds of experts at my virtual summits. My very first interview was with Pat Flynn, in June 2013.
The difference between a mediocre and a memorable interview is rarely the guest. It's the host's questions.
I structure most of my interviews in 4 parts. For a 30-minute interview:

The generator writes it as a cheat sheet: an introduction to read, an opening question, 10 to 15 core questions across the 4 parts with a follow-up for each, and a closing question. Pick a longer interview and the times scale with it.
Add what the guest is known for, and the questions build on their own work instead of asking what their bio already says.
For a lighter ending, it can add a rapid-fire round: Tim Ferriss's 11 questions from Tribe of Mentors, which he asked more than 100 people, word for word.

Customer interview questions: The Mom Test
The Mom Test, by Rob Fitzpatrick, is named for a simple idea: ask questions even your mom can't lie to you about. It has 3 rules:
- Talk about their life instead of your idea.
- Ask about specifics in the past instead of generics or opinions about the future.
- Talk less and listen more.
People are kind about ideas and bad at predicting what they'll do. What they already did, and what it cost them, is the truth.

The generator never mentions your product in a question. It flags any question that asks about the future, asks for an opinion, or pitches your idea.
How we know the questions are good
Every question is checked in code, not by the AI that wrote it:
- All kinds: yes-or-no questions, 2 questions in one, questions over 35 words, and leading questions
- Job interviews: behavioral questions that aren't about a real past moment, and questions without a follow-up
- Guest interviews: questions a bio or a quick search already answers
- Customer interviews: questions about the future, opinions, and anything that pitches your idea
You see how many pass, and a note under any that doesn't, with what to ask instead.
Tips for running the interview
- Share topics, not questions. I send guests the topics we'll cover, not the exact questions, so the answers stay fresh.
- Tell them who's listening. A line on the audience helps a guest pitch it at the right level.
- Listen for the follow-up. The best question is often the one you didn't plan.
- Let them be the expert. Your job isn't to impress the guest. It's to impress the audience with what you draw out of them.
