What is a YouTube hashtag generator?
A YouTube hashtag generator is a tool that suggests hashtags for a video's title or description. This one takes them from the videos that rank for your topic.
How to use the YouTube hashtag generator
YouTube's hashtag rules
These rules are YouTube's own, from its help page on hashtags (read September 27, 2026):
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| Up to 3 show by the title | Of the hashtags in a description, up to 3 that YouTube considers most engaging show by the title |
| Over 60 and none count | With more than 60 hashtags, YouTube ignores every hashtag on the video |
| No spaces | Join the words: #TimeManagement |
| Only related hashtags | Misleading or unrelated hashtags may get a video removed |
That's why the tool ticks up to 3: YouTube shows up to 3 by the title anyway. It ticks the topic's own hashtag and the ones 2 or more top videos share, never one only a single video uses.
It follows the second rule too: a video with more than 60 hashtags isn't counted, since YouTube ignores every hashtag on it.
Hashtags on nearly every video
Some hashtags, like #shorts, #viral and #fyp, sit on videos of every topic. They say little about your video, so the tool shows them faded and never picks them first.
Long videos or Shorts
Pick Shorts and the tool reads the top Shorts for your topic instead of long videos, titles included.
Hashtags or tags?
Hashtags are visible: viewers see them, and a tap opens a page of other videos with the same hashtag. Tags are hidden in YouTube Studio.
For tags, use the YouTube tag generator. To see the hashtags and tags of any video, use the YouTube tag extractor.
Who is the YouTube hashtag generator for?
It's for YouTubers adding hashtags to a description:
- YouTube tag generator – creators filling in hidden tags too
- YouTube tag extractor – anyone checking another video's hashtags
