People Also Ask is the box of questions Google puts between its results, and each one is a question real searchers have about your keyword.

This free People Also Ask tool shows those questions as Google shows them today, opened two levels deep, so you see the follow-up questions too.

It adds the questions people type into Google and the pages Google's AI Overview cites, which together give you a content brief in a few seconds.

So here's what People Also Ask is, how I find the questions worth answering, and how to get your page into the box.

Key takeaways

People Also Ask is a box of questions Google shows in its results, and opening one shows its answer and adds more questions.
The questions change with the day, the country and the device, so check them close to when you write.
Answer each question in the first sentence under a heading that asks it.
The pages Google's AI Overview cites show which sources Google trusts for the topic.

What is a People Also Ask tool?

A People Also Ask tool shows the questions Google lists in its People Also Ask box for a keyword.

This one gives you three lists for every keyword:

  • People Also Ask – the questions Google shows, opened two levels deep, the way they appeared.
  • Questions people type – Google's own suggestions that start with a question word, grouped by that word.
  • Pages Google cites – the sources under Google's AI Overview, next to the top 10 results.

Every list copies in one click or downloads as a CSV.

What is People Also Ask?

People Also Ask is a box of questions in Google's results, usually a few of them, each with an arrow to open it.

When you open a question, Google shows an answer and often adds new questions under the box.

In my lookups on October 1, 2026, the answers under the questions were Google's AI answers rather than quotes from a page, so the questions themselves are the part to work with.

An example: podcast microphone

For "podcast microphone" in the US, Google showed these four questions:

  • What type of mic is best for podcasting?
  • What is the best microphone for podcasting?
  • What kind of microphone does Joe Rogan use on his podcast?
  • How much does a podcast mic cost?

Opening the last one added "How much does a podcast with 5000 listeners make?" and "What do most podcasters use to record?"

That second level is where the angles nobody else covers usually are.

How to use the People Also Ask tool

It takes about a minute:

  1. Type your keyword. Two to four words works best, like "podcast microphone".
  2. Pick your country. The questions differ by country.
  3. Read the questions. The indented ones appeared when the question above was opened.
  4. Check the questions people type. They're grouped by how, what, why and the rest.
  5. Copy them or download the CSV. Then plan your headings around them.

The questions come free from Google's suggestions straight away, and the live box comes from one lookup that stays free for anyone for a week.

How I turn the questions into a page

I don't answer all of them.

I pick the questions that match what my page promises, then I do three things:

  1. Use the question, or close to it, as an H2 or H3.
  2. Answer it in the first sentence under that heading, in about 40 to 50 words.
  3. Add the details after, with a list or a table when the answer has steps or numbers.

Check the headline with the headline analyzer and the title with the title and meta checker before you publish.

How to get your page into People Also Ask

Google picks the answers, so nothing guarantees a spot.

What helps is the same thing that helps any answer rank:

  • A direct answer – the first sentence under the heading answers the question on its own.
  • The question as a heading – so the answer has a clear place on the page.
  • A page that already ranks – most answers come from pages Google already trusts for the topic.

If a page has a section of questions and answers, FAQ schema from the schema generator still labels them clearly for other tools, even though Google stopped showing FAQ results in May 2026.

Who is the People Also Ask tool for?

It's for anyone who writes for people who search:

And if you make videos or podcasts, the same questions make good episode titles.
