What is an HTML email signature?
An HTML email signature is your signature written as HTML, so it can have your photo, your logo, colors and links.
Your email app pastes it at the end of your emails. Some teams also install it for everyone through their email admin.
Why email HTML is different
Email apps don't draw HTML the way browsers do:
- Styles go inline. Some apps drop
<style>blocks, so every size and color is set on the element itself. - Layout is tables. Flexbox and grid aren't safe in email, so each row and column is a table cell.
- Classic Outlook draws with its own engine. According to Can I email, it rounds corners only with its own VML code, not CSS. So a round photo has to be round in the image file.
- Images need a width and a height, or some apps show them at full size.
The generator follows each of these rules.
Images in HTML signatures
An <img> in a signature must point to a public https address. The generator hosts your photo, logo and banner and puts their links in the code, as PNG or JPG, since classic Outlook for Windows shows neither SVG nor WebP.
The size limit
Gmail takes up to 10,000 characters in a signature, images included. The generator shows the size of your HTML as you build it.
Your signature in dark mode
Many email apps lighten dark text in dark mode. Images stay as they are.
So a black logo on a see-through background can disappear. The generator checks your photo and logo for this, and adds a white backing to your logo in 1 click.
