What is an Amazon book description formatter?
An Amazon book description formatter writes your description in the HTML that KDP accepts, so bold, lists and headings show on your book's page.
KDP has its own editor, but it doesn't show you the page, or catch what it will reject.
The tags KDP allows
KDP supports these tags, and no others:

<h1> to <h3> aren't supported. The formatter turns them into <h4>, and <strong> into <b>.
KDP counts the tags too
KDP's limit is 4,000 characters, and the tags count toward it.
The word test is 4 characters. In bold, it's 11: <b>test</b>. The formatter's count is KDP's, tags included.
Invisible characters
Pasting from Word or Google Docs can bring characters you can't see. KDP then shows "Description may not contain invisible characters".
The formatter removes them as you paste.
Where Read more cuts
Amazon shows part of the description, then a Read more link. On a book page on September 26, 2026, the cut came at about:
- A laptop: 280 pixels, roughly 14 lines
- A phone: 500 pixels, roughly 25 lines

- Everything above Read more is all most shoppers see. Here, it's awards and review quotes; on KDP, those go in Editorial Reviews instead.
