What is a website screenshot tool?

A website screenshot tool opens a web page in a real browser and saves what it shows as a picture.

This one also finds the page's parts, so you can save the hero, one section or the footer without cropping it yourself.

What it made from real pages

Here are screenshots straight from the tool, with nothing touched up. Click one to see it at full size:

The phone one is sharp at 2x, like the screen it came from. The full page is cut into columns here, so it fits.

Pick the part you want

Every page comes back split into the parts it's built from:

• Top of the page – what a visitor sees first, hero included.
• Header – the menu bar across the top.
• Sections – each block of the page, named by its heading.
• Footer – the links and small print at the bottom.
• Full page – all of it, top to bottom.

Click a part and it's outlined on the page, so you see what you'll get before you download it.

Which format to download

Each format is good at something different:

• PNG – sharp text and edges, for docs, slides and design files.
• JPG – smaller files, for long pages full of photos.
• WebP – smaller still, for putting on a website.
• PDF – the full page with its text kept as text you can select and search. A part comes as a picture in a PDF.
• HTML – the page's code as it stands once loaded, to keep a copy of how it looked or see how it's built.

Tick Sharp, 2x for twice the pixels, for retina screens and print.

Cookie banners, chat bubbles and pictures that load late

Most screenshot tools take the picture the moment a page loads. That's how you get a cookie popup across the page, or gray boxes where photos should be.

This one scrolls to the bottom of the page and back first, so pictures that wait for a scroll load too.

Then it hides cookie banners and chat bubbles: the common ones by name, and any box pinned to the screen that talks about cookies or chat.

Untick Hide cookie banners and chat bubbles to keep them in the picture.

Compared with CloudConvert

I captured the same five pages with each on September 29, 2026, both at 1,440 pixels wide:

This tool was faster on Wikipedia and Apple, level on Stripe, and a little slower on the BBC. The Guardian took longer here because this tool captured the page, where CloudConvert stopped at the popup.

What came back differed more. Stripe answered CloudConvert in German under its cookie box, and Apple showed it a bar offering another country's store.

An extension is quickest for a page that's open in front of you, since nothing loads twice. It captures the page as it is in your tab, so close the cookie banner first.

This tool is for a page you'd rather not open, a phone view, one part of a page, or a computer where you can't install anything.

I use CleanShot X and Snagit too, for everything on my screen that isn't a web page.

How I tested

The five pages were busy ones on purpose, with cookie popups, pictures that load as you scroll, and very long layouts.

What it can't capture

Some things don't come through in any screenshot like this:

• Pages behind a login – it sees what anyone signed out sees.
• 3D scenes and video – WebGL, like the globe on Stripe's home page, can come out blank, and a video shows a still frame.
• Very long pages – the picture stops at 16,000 pixels tall. The PDF keeps going, onto a second page.
• Very heavy pages – a page with lots of effects and pictures can take a minute, or run out of time.
• Sites that turn automated browsers away – some answer with an error or a robot check.

For a page behind your login, Chrome can do it itself: open DevTools, turn on device mode, and pick the full size screenshot from its More options menu.

Use it fairly

A screenshot of someone else's site is fine for a review, a comparison, a client report or your own notes. Their design, words and photos still belong to them.

So don't pass their page off as yours, copy it into your own site, or sell it. If you share one in public, say whose site it is.
