What is a mobile website screenshot?

A mobile website screenshot is a picture of a web page as it looks on a phone's screen.

Most sites change their layout on a phone, so it can look quite different from the same page on a computer.

What it made from real pages

Here are screenshots straight from the tool, with nothing touched up. Click one to see it at full size:

Both are at 2x, 780 pixels wide, as sharp as on the phone itself.

How it opens the page like a phone

Three things make a site send its phone layout:

• A phone's screen – 390 by 844, the screen size of an iPhone 14.
• A phone's browser – the page is told it's Safari on an iPhone.
• Touch – the page is told it has a touch screen, not a mouse.

The picture comes out at 2x, 780 pixels wide, as sharp as it looks on the phone itself. Tablet is an iPad Air's 820 by 1180, in portrait.

What to check on the phone version

A phone screenshot shows problems a desktop one hides:

• The first screen – whether your offer shows before anyone scrolls, or only a big picture.
• Text – anything you'd have to zoom in to read.
• Buttons – links and buttons too close together to tap.
• Popups – a banner or chat bubble that covers the page.

Take the same page on Desktop too, and put the two side by side.

How I tested

The phone and desktop screenshots come from the same browser and the same steps, so I compared them on desktop pages, where other tools work too.

I captured five busy pages with this tool and with CloudConvert on September 29, 2026:

This tool was faster on Wikipedia and Apple, level on Stripe, and a little slower on the BBC. The Guardian took longer here because this tool captured the page, where CloudConvert stopped at the popup.

What came back differed more. Stripe answered CloudConvert in German under its cookie box, and Apple showed it a bar offering another country's store.

An extension is quickest for a page that's open in front of you, since nothing loads twice. It captures the page as it is in your tab, so close the cookie banner first.

This tool is for a page you'd rather not open, a phone view, one part of a page, or a computer where you can't install anything.

I use CleanShot X and Snagit too, for everything on my screen that isn't a web page.

What it can't capture

Some things don't come through in any screenshot like this:

• Pages behind a login – it sees what anyone signed out sees.
• 3D scenes and video – WebGL, like the globe on Stripe's home page, can come out blank, and a video shows a still frame.
• Very long pages – the picture stops at 16,000 pixels tall. The PDF keeps going, onto a second page.
• Very heavy pages – a page with lots of effects and pictures can take a minute, or run out of time.
• Sites that turn automated browsers away – some answer with an error or a robot check.

For a page behind your login, Chrome can do it itself: open DevTools, turn on device mode, and pick the full size screenshot from its More options menu.
