What is an audio enhancer?
An audio enhancer fixes the two things that make a home recording sound rough: noise around the voice, and a level that's too quiet or too loud.
This one removes the noise with an AI model on your own device. Then it measures the loudness and sets it where podcasts sit.
What it does to your recording
First, the noise comes out. The model hears up to 20 seconds at a time and keeps the voice, and the Background slider sets how much of the room stays.
Then the loudness. It's measured to ITU-R BS.1770, the standard behind Apple's target, and brought to -16 LUFS in stereo or -19 in mono, with a limiter keeping peaks under -1 dB.
Podcast loudness, explained
Apple's audio requirements ask for around -16 LKFS, give or take 1 dB, with no true peak over -1 dBFS. LKFS and LUFS are the same scale.
A mono file goes to -19 LUFS instead. Players put mono on both speakers, where it sounds 3 dB louder than it measures.
How well it works
I scored it on 10 real recordings from Microsoft's noise research, made on headsets, speakerphones and webcams in cafes, offices and hallways.
On DNSMOS, Microsoft's 1 to 5 score for speech with noise, overall quality rose from 2.27 to 2.99. The background alone rose from 2.61 to 4.00.
On a clip of my AI Creator Summit 2026 talk with a crowded restaurant under it, the overall quality went from 1.78 to 3.17. Play the example above to hear it.
- Turning it up again in your editor – the level is already right, and more gain can clip.
- Expecting it to fix distortion – a voice that clipped when it was recorded stays clipped.
- Expecting it to remove echo – a voice in a big bare room can still sound like it's in one.
Compared with Adobe and Riverside
I cleaned the same 20-second clip with Adobe's Enhance Speech and Riverside's Magic Audio too, then scored all of them at the same loudness. Switch between them in the example above.

Riverside's scored highest, close to the clip before the restaurant went in. Mine matched Adobe's overall and left less of the restaurant behind.
On Microsoft's 10 recordings, Adobe's scored 3.08 overall and mine 2.99, with mine ahead on background, 4.00 against 3.91. Riverside wasn't part of that test.
Adobe and Riverside both need an account and an upload. This one is free and stays in your browser.
How fast it is
On a MacBook Pro with an M1 Max, the 20-second example took 19 seconds the first time, with the 141 MB download, and 2 seconds after that, on the graphics card. Measuring and setting the loudness takes a moment more when you save.
Phones and older computers can pick the fast model: 34 MB, much quicker, and a little less noise taken out.
After you clean it up
Cut the ums with the filler word remover, edit it by its words in the text-based audio editor, or add captions with the video caption generator.
