This free cooking converter turns any kitchen amount into every unit at once: cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, fluid ounces, milliliters, liters, grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds.
Pick an ingredient, and it crosses from cups and spoons to grams and ounces too.
I built it because a recipe from another country uses units you don't own, and switching between 5 converters for 1 recipe is slow.
Here's how the units fit together, a worked example, and the 1 rule that trips people up.
Key takeaways
What is a cooking converter?
A cooking converter changes a kitchen amount from one unit to another.
This one shows every unit at once, so you can pick whichever spoon or cup you have.
How the kitchen units fit together
All the US units come from NIST's Handbook 44, the US standard for weights and measures.

Weight is separate: 1 ounce is 28.35 g and 1 pound is 16 ounces, 453.59 g.
A worked example
Here's the example the calculator loads: 1 cup of butter.
That's 16 tablespoons, 48 teaspoons, 8 fluid ounces or 237 mL by volume. By USDA's weight for butter, it's 227 g, 8 oz or half a pound.
Mistakes to avoid
These are the slips that ruin a recipe.
- Treating a fluid ounce and an ounce of weight as the same thing
- Converting cups to grams with water's weight for every ingredient
- Using a cup or spoon from another country's set without checking its size
- Rounding teaspoons of baking soda or salt too far
Who is the cooking converter for?
It's for cooks with recipes from anywhere, and these tools help around it.
- Cups to grams converter – for 1 ingredient, cup by cup
- Recipe scaler – for every line of a recipe
- Oven temperature converter – for °F, °C and gas marks
Convert once, and cook the recipe as it was written.
