Internet in Venice

In M-Lab's open speed tests within 25 km of Venice, half came in above 50 Mbps download and 17 Mbps upload, and the fastest quarter of lines above 142 Mbps.

That's 384,171 download tests from September 2025 to September 2026.

The typical figure counts every line, cheap and mobile ones too; a fiber line in a good apartment or coworking space is closer to the fastest quarter.

Cost of living in Venice

One person spends about $4,005 a month in Venice, with a furnished place to stay:

WhatA month
A furnished studio or one-bedroom$3,099
Groceries$300
Eating out$193
Utilities and phone$165
Public transport$74
Leisure$174
Total$4,005

The rent is the lower quarter of Inside Airbnb's 50 studios and one-bedrooms that take stays of a month or more, from its June 2026 listings.

The rest is what a one-person US household spends (the Bureau of Labor Statistics' 2024 survey), at Italy's prices for each (the World Bank's 2021 price comparison).

Coworking, insurance and flights come on top.

Here's what a furnished studio or one-bedroom lists for in the neighborhoods with the most month-long stays:

No open air quality station is within 25 km of Venice, so these are estimates from Copernicus's CAMS air model for the surrounding area (an 80 km grid, 2023 to 2025, CC BY 4.0), adjusted to what stations measure elsewhere.

Take them as a guide: the model can be well off in big cities, and a measured figure replaces it once a station opens.

Is Venice safe?

The US State Department rates Italy Level 2 ("Exercise increased caution", updated 2026-09-10), the same level it gives France, Germany, the UK and Spain.

Levels 1 and 2 are both everyday travel; the US only asks you to reconsider a trip at Level 3.

Some advisories raise the level for parts of a country, so read the full advisory before you book.

FAQs about Venice

Here are the questions people ask most about Venice, answered from this guide.

The mildest, driest months are June, July and August, with afternoons between 68°F and 84°F (20°C and 29°C) and little rain.

That's from NASA POWER's monthly climate averages for the point (a grid about 50 km across, so a coastal or mountain city can read a little off).

In M-Lab's open speed tests over the last 12 months, half came in above 50 Mbps download and 17 Mbps upload.

The fastest quarter of lines, closer to a good fiber connection, came in above 142 Mbps.

The US State Department rates Italy Level 2 ("Exercise increased caution", updated 2026-09-10), the same level it gives France, Germany, the UK and Spain. Levels 1 and 2 are both everyday travel; the US only asks you to reconsider a trip at Level 3.

Some advisories are stricter for parts of a country, so read the full advisory before you go.

It depends on your passport and how long you stay.

The visa-free countries map shows your stay without a visa, and the digital nomad visa finder shows whether Italy has a visa for remote work.
