What is an X (Twitter) intent?
An X intent, or Twitter intent, is a link that opens X with an action ready: a post with your words in it, a reply to a post, or a follow.
The reader still presses X's own button, so nothing happens without them. X calls them web intents.

Every X intent
X documents these intents on its developer site. I read them on September 26, 2026:

Reply- What it opens

X now sends x.com/intent/tweet to x.com/intent/post, and both work.
The 280 characters include your link
X's docs say the text shouldn't pass 280 characters together with the hashtags, the via account and the link. X shortens every link to 23 characters, whatever its length.
So a post with a link has 257 characters left for everything else. The tool counts with X's own open source library, the one X uses.
What X's post box opens with
X puts the parts in this order: your text, the link, the hashtags, then "via @account". I checked it on x.com:
- Text: "Hello from a test"
- Link: navid.me/free-tools
- Hashtags: ai, tools
- Via: thenavidm
X's box opened with "Hello from a test https://navid.me/free-tools #ai #tools via @thenavidm".
What each part does
Each part of the link changes what X opens:
- Hashtags go in without the #, and X adds them at the end.
- Via adds "via @account" after the rest, and X suggests following it after posting.
- Accounts to suggest don't appear in the post. X suggests them after posting, each with a few words on why.
- Reply needs the post's link. The tool reads the post's number from any X link, even twitter.com and mobile links.
Leave any part empty and X simply leaves it out.
A QR code that opens X
Every link can be a QR code. Put it on a slide or a poster, and people scan it to post about your talk or follow you.

Intents don't open inside an iframe
X's docs say web intents can't load inside an iframe. So open the link in a new tab or window, which is what the links here do.
