What is a filler word remover?
A filler word remover cuts the sounds people make while they think, like um and uh, and shortens the pauses between sentences. The words around them stay as they were.
This one also cuts a word said twice in a row, like "I I", and lets you cut any other word by hand.
How it finds um and uh
Whisper, the speech recognition model under this tool, writes clean text: it leaves most ums and uhs out. On the example, Whisper wrote none of the four fillers that YouTube's own captions show, on your device or on our server.
So the tool listens between the words Whisper did write. A gap with sound in it as loud as speech is almost always a filler, a false start or a "you know".
On the example, it cut four of the five ums and uhs and no words. We checked the edit against a transcript made to keep fillers: only a "but, uh, but" was left.
Listen before you cut
Each sound is marked where it is in the transcript, with its length. Press the speaker to hear it with half a second around it, and click the length to cut it or keep it.
A sound over 1 second is marked in amber. In our test on a clip cut off mid-sentence, one of those was words Whisper had missed, so hear it before you keep the cut.
Long pauses and repeated words
A silence longer than 0.8 seconds is shortened to 0.4, so the talk keeps its breathing room. A word said twice in a row is cut the first time.
Each is a switch, and each cut is listed where it happens, to keep any of them.
Cut anything else
Click a word in the transcript, shift-click to select more, and click Cut. The player skips every cut, so you hear the edit as you make it.
Undo works as many times as you need.
Save it
Save the edit as MP3, WAV or M4A, and even out the loudness to -16 LUFS, the level Apple Podcasts asks for. Every cut fades over 8 milliseconds, so no click is heard.
The edited transcript downloads too, as text or as subtitles with the new times.
After you clean it up
Make a clip of it with the audiogram generator, or turn it into text with the audio to text converter.
