This free YouTube video summarizer gives you the key points of any public YouTube video in seconds.

It reads the full video, not just the start, and puts the time next to every point. Press a time and the video plays from that moment.

Here's what a YouTube video summarizer is, how to summarize a video, and what to do with the summary.

What is a YouTube video summarizer?

A YouTube video summarizer is a tool that reads a video's transcript and writes a short version of it: what it says, and the points worth knowing.

This one gives you 3 things for every video: a TL;DR in a few sentences, the key points in the order they're said, and chapters.

How to summarize a YouTube video

Summarize a YouTube video0/4

Watch links, youtu.be links, Shorts and live stream replays all work.

What you get with every summary

Every summary has 4 parts, each in its own tab:

PartWhat it's for
TL;DRThe video in 2 to 4 sentences, so you know if it's worth your time
Key pointsThe points worth knowing, in order, each with the time it's said
ChaptersA table of contents, ready to paste into a YouTube description
TranscriptEvery word with times, to search, copy or download

The summary is written only from what's said in the video. Nothing is added.

Why every point has a time

A summary is only useful if you can check it.

Every key point carries the time it's said. Press it, and the video plays from there, so you hear the point in the speaker's own words before you quote it.

Long videos are read in full

Many summarizers read only the start of a long video.

This one reads a long video in parts, then picks the key points from all of them. So hour 2 of a podcast counts as much as minute 2.

Chapters for your own videos

Paste your own video and open the Chapters tab. You get a list of times and titles, ready to paste into the video's description.

It's checked against YouTube's rules: the first chapter at 0:00, at least 3 chapters, and each at least 10 seconds long. For chapters alone, use the YouTube timestamp generator.

Summarize it your way with your own AI

Want something else, like a study guide or 5 X posts? Pick it from the Ask your AI to menu and press your AI.

The transcript goes with the ask, in your own ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok or Perplexity. So it's free, and it lands in the chat you already use.

5 ways to use a video summary

A summary turns a 40-minute video into a 1-minute read. Here's what creators do with that:

  • Decide what to watch. Read the TL;DR before you give a video 40 minutes.
  • Research a topic fast. Summarize the top 5 videos on it and see what each one covers.
  • Find the gap. Note what none of them answer. That's your next video.
  • Keep notes. Download the summary as Markdown into Notion or Obsidian.
  • Chapter your own videos. Paste your video and copy the chapters into its description.

The third is the one most creators skip: the gap between the top videos is the video nobody has made yet.

For every word instead of the points, use the YouTube transcript generator.

Who is the YouTube video summarizer for?

It's for anyone who wants a video's key points without watching all of it:

It writes the summary in the language of this page.
