What are visa-free countries?
Visa-free countries are the countries you can enter as a visitor without applying for a visa first.
You show your passport at the border, and you get a stay of a set length: often 30, 90 or 180 days.
The map sorts every country into 5 kinds:

The gap is wide: a Swedish passport needs an embassy visa for 14 countries, and a Nigerian one for 115. The map always shows the latest numbers for your passport.
The longest visa-free stays
For a digital nomad, the length matters as much as the entry. Here are some of the longest stays for a US passport, from Wikipedia's tables on September 26, 2026:

A US passport goes to 148 countries without a visa in advance, and a Mexican one to 130. Together, they go to 153.
Visa rules change often
The rules move every month, which is why each passport's date shows under the map. Wikipedia's tables noted these changes on September 26, 2026:
- China lets Swedish citizens in visa-free for 30 days, a temporary rule until December 31, 2026
- Chad suspended visas for US citizens on June 5, 2025
- Gabon issued a reciprocal visa ban for US citizens from January 1, 2026
- Swedish and US passports, among others, now need an Electronic Travel Authorisation for the UK
