Codes are copied from each publisher's own list on the date shown. They describe what your business does and don't decide your tax. This isn't legal or tax advice.

This free business activity code finder gives you the official code for what your business does, from the list your country uses.

Pick where your company is and describe what it does, or pick a common online business like a YouTube channel, a podcast or online courses. You get the code, its official title, and the line from the publisher's own list that says why.

What is a business activity code?

A business activity code says what your company does, in a list the government keeps. You give it when you register the company, and often again on tax forms and yearly filings.

Every country picks from a list, and the lists differ: NAICS in the US, SIC in the UK, NACE in the EU, SSIC in Singapore, and each free zone's own list in the UAE.

In the UK, Companies House takes at least 1 and up to 4 SIC codes. The ONS published a new SIC 2026 in 2026, but Companies House still uses SIC 2007.

In the EU, a country may use its own version of NACE. Eurostat says these versions fit NACE's structure and usually add a fifth digit, so the first 4 digits match.

Codes for online businesses and creators

The older lists were written before YouTube channels and podcasts. The newer ones now name them: the EU's NACE Rev. 2.1 puts vlogs in 59.11 and audio podcasts in 59.20, and Singapore's SSIC 2025 lists "Influencer (own account)" under 90209.

The US NAICS 2022 and the UK's SIC 2007 name neither, so the finder gives the closest code and says so.

An online store is different: most lists class it by what you sell, not by selling online. So search for the product, like clothing. The UK and IFZA are the exceptions, with one code for selling online.

The IRS code for a US LLC

The IRS asks for its own principal business activity code on Form 1120. Form 5472, which a foreign-owned US LLC files each year, points to the same list for lines 1d and 1e.

The IRS codes are built on NAICS, and many group several industries: a video creator's NAICS 512110 is IRS 512100. The finder shows both.

The US LLC for non-residents checker shows which forms your LLC files.

Picking an activity in the UAE

In a UAE free zone, the activity goes on your trade license, and it decides whether you need a professional or a commercial license.

IFZA's list, the free zone I used when I ran my business in Dubai, has 827 activities, and 245 of them need a government approval, some before the license is issued. The finder shows the license type and any approval for each one.

Your activity also matters for corporate tax. The UAE free zone tax checker shows whether your income can get the free zone's 0% rate.

Lines 1d and 1e ask for your principal business activity and its code.

The code comes from the IRS list in the Form 1120 instructions, which is built on NAICS.

It depends on the work: 5911002 for producing video content, 7310026 for advertising through social media accounts, and 6312101 for a blog.

The first 2 need approval from the Ministry of Culture & Youth before the license.

It's the EU's list of economic activities, used for European statistics from 2025.

EU countries may use their own version of it, usually with a fifth digit added.
