Free Video Compressor

A free video compressor that makes any video smaller in your browser, or fits it to the size you set, with nothing uploaded.

Drop a video and make it smaller, or fit it to a size like 25 MB. It all happens in this browser.

Compress video in your browser with this free video compressor: make any video smaller, or small enough to fit a size you set, like 25 MB for Gmail.

It can also make the picture smaller, like 4K down to 1080p. Nothing is uploaded, so there's no size limit.

Here's how much smaller each setting gets, what it costs in quality, and how to fit an email or an upload limit.

Key takeaways

This free tool lets you compress video in your browser: MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM, with nothing uploaded.
Pick Smaller, Smallest, or Fit a size and type the size in MB, like 25 MB for a Gmail attachment.
In my test, a 7.9 MB 1080p clip came out at 2.3 MB with Smaller and still scored 0.990 for looking like the original.
Making the picture smaller too, like 1080p to 720p, shrinks it most for phones and chats.
The result is an MP4 with H.264 video, which every phone, player and site takes.

What is a video compressor?

A video compressor makes a video file smaller by spending fewer bits on each second, and sometimes fewer pixels on each frame.

Video encoders are good at spending bits where you'd notice. So a video can often lose half its size or more and still look the same on a phone.

How much smaller each setting gets

Here's a 10-second 1080p clip, 7.9 MB, compressed with each setting on September 30, 2026. The score is how alike it looks to the original, where 1 is identical:

The original
Size
7.9 MB
Score

2.3 MB
Score

Smallest

Fit a size: 2 MB

The original was saved at a very high quality, so it had room to shrink. A video that's already compressed shrinks less.

Fit an email or an upload limit

Pick Fit a size and type the size in MB. The compressor works out the bitrate from the video's length, so the file comes in just under it.

Gmail's limit is 25 MB for a personal account, and bigger files go through Google Drive. For a long video, a smaller size in pixels keeps it sharp at that limit.

Smaller in pixels

A 4K video is four times the pixels of 1080p. On a phone screen, 1080p or 720p looks the same and is a fraction of the size.

Pick a size under Size: 1080p, 720p or 480p. The shape stays the same, so nothing is cropped.

Nothing is uploaded

Most online converters send your video to their server and send back the result. This one converts in your browser, with the video encoders built into it.

So your video never leaves your computer, there's no upload to wait for, and there's no size limit but your computer's memory.

What it can't convert

Some files don't work in a browser:

  • Old formats – AVI, WMV and FLV aren't read. MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, Ogg and GIF are.
  • Some sound codecs – a camera's AC-3 or DTS sound can't be decoded in most browsers.
  • Copy-protected videos – videos from streaming apps are locked.
  • Very long 4K videos – they work, but a phone may run out of memory.

For those, convert on a computer rather than a phone.

Who is the video compressor for?

It's for anyone whose video is too big to send:

Teachers and support teams use it to email a recording.
