This free time zone overlap calculator shows the hours 2 or more places share, in each place's own time.

Add up to 6 places, each with its own hours. It finds the overlap on the day you pick, daylight saving included, and draws everyone's day side by side.

Here's how much common pairs overlap, the daylight saving weeks that catch people out, and what to do when there's no overlap at all.

What is a time zone overlap?

A time zone overlap is the part of the day when everyone's hours line up across time zones.

With a team in ![](https://cdn.navid.me/flags/pt.svg) Lisbon and a client in ![](https://cdn.navid.me/flags/us.svg) New York, both working 9 to 5, the overlap is 3 hours: 2 PM to 5 PM in Lisbon, 9 AM to noon in New York.

How much common pairs overlap

Here's the overlap for 10 pairs, with both places working 9 to 5:

PlacesSeptember 28, 2026January 12, 2026
London and New York3 hours3 hours
Berlin and New York2 hours2 hours
New York and Los Angeles5 hours5 hours
Mexico City and New York6 hours7 hours
Bogotá and Lisbon2 hours3 hours
Dubai and London5 hours4 hours
Bangkok and London2 hours1 hour
Lisbon and Bali1 hourNone
Sydney and Los Angeles1 hour3 hours
Lisbon and Los AngelesNoneNone

The pairs change with the season because some places change their clocks and others don't.

Daylight saving changes the overlap

Countries change their clocks on different dates, and some never do. Here are the dates for 2026:

WhereClocks go forwardClocks go back
United StatesMarch 8November 1
United Kingdom and the EUMarch 29October 25
SydneyOctober 4April 5
Mexico CityNo changeNo change
BogotáNo changeNo change
São PauloNo changeNo change
BaliNo changeNo change
BangkokNo changeNo change
DubaiNo changeNo change

So for 3 weeks in March and 1 week in late October, the US and Europe are an hour closer than usual. Lisbon and New York get 4 hours instead of 3.

The calculator asks for a day for this reason. It uses your browser's own time zone data, so the dates are right.

Working with New York from abroad

If your clients are on US East Coast time, Latin America keeps the most of your day. Here's the overlap with New York, both working 9 to 5:

Where you workSeptember 28, 2026January 12, 2026
Medellín7 hours8 hours
Panama City7 hours8 hours
Buenos Aires7 hours6 hours
Mexico City6 hours7 hours
Lisbon3 hours3 hours
London3 hours3 hours
Barcelona2 hours2 hours
DubaiNoneNone
Da NangNoneNone
BaliNoneNone

Asia works for US clients only if you work their hours, or your calls happen early in your morning.

Working with London from abroad

For European clients, most of Europe and Africa keep a full day, and the Gulf keeps half of it:

Where you workSeptember 28, 2026January 12, 2026
Lisbon8 hours8 hours
Barcelona7 hours7 hours
Cape Town7 hours6 hours
Dubai5 hours4 hours
New York3 hours3 hours
Medellín2 hours3 hours
Bangkok2 hours1 hour
Da Nang2 hours1 hour
Mexico City1 hour2 hours
Bali1 hourNone

Da Nang is one of my favorite places to live as a nomad. It shares no 9-to-5 hours with New York, and 1 or 2 with London, so it suits work you can do on your own clock.

Where you base yourself also sets how long you can stay: check the visa-free countries map, and count your days with the 183-day rule calculator.

When there's no overlap

Add Singapore to Lisbon and New York, and 9 to 5 in all 3 has no overlap at all.

Then someone has to stretch, or the work moves to writing. Here's what works for remote teams:

  • Share the early and late calls, so the same person isn't always up at 7 AM
  • Write decisions down, so people in other zones don't wait for a call
  • Record short video updates instead of meetings
  • Keep 1 shared hour a week for the conversations that need a call

Change 1 place's hours in the calculator, say 7 AM to 3 PM in New York, and watch the overlap appear.

Who is the time zone overlap calculator for?

It's for remote teams, founders with clients abroad, and digital nomads who work with people back home.

If you're building a team across time zones, Chris Ducker's book on working with virtual staff is a good start:
