This Seminyak guide for digital nomads shows you what living and working there is really like.

I lived in Seminyak, and in Canggu just up the coast.

It's Bali's polished beach town: sunset beach clubs, boutiques, restaurants and spas, with the airport half an hour away.

It also costs less on Airbnb than Canggu: a furnished month had a median of about $1,100 to $1,500 in November.

In this guide, I'll show you:

  • What Seminyak is like for digital nomads, and what other nomads say about it
  • The best areas, and what a month really costs
  • Where digital nomads work, and how fast the internet is
  • How safe it is, and how to get around
  • Things to do, day trips like Uluwatu and Ubud, and Indonesia's visas

Here's everything you need to know before you go.

Key takeaways

A furnished month on Airbnb had a median of $1,082 in Legian and $1,474 in Petitenget for November 2026.
My finders list eight coworking spaces and 143 free Wi-Fi spots, but the typical line tests only about 15 Mbps.
I felt very safe in Seminyak, and the US rates Indonesia Level 2, the same level as France, Germany and the UK.
Indonesia's E33G remote worker visa lasts one year, for people earning at least $60,000 a year from a company abroad.
The dry season runs from April to October, and December to March is the wet season.

What is Seminyak like for digital nomads?

Seminyak is a beach town on Bali's southwest coast, in Indonesia, between Legian to the south and Canggu to the north.

It grew from a fishing and farming village into Bali's upscale strip of beach clubs, villas and restaurants.

For digital nomads, it's a more polished, more central alternative to Canggu, closer to the airport and easier to get around without a scooter.

Most nomads rent an apartment or a villa with a pool, and work from a coworking space or a café nearby.

And here are Seminyak's numbers at a glance:

What other digital nomads say about Seminyak

I read the digital nomad guides that rank for Seminyak and the threads where nomads, and people who live there, answer questions.

Here's what they like:

  • The beach and sunsets – a long sandy beach with beanbags, beach clubs and some of Bali's best sunsets.
  • The food – from warungs to some of Bali's best restaurants, along Jalan Kayu Aya and Petitenget.
  • Convenience – supermarkets, spas, gyms and shops close by, and the airport about 30 minutes away.
  • Grab and Gojek – easy to get around by app without riding a scooter yourself.

And here's what they complain about:

  • The crowds and traffic – the main streets are busy, and the roads jam at sunset.
  • Prices – the beach clubs and smart restaurants charge close to Western prices.
  • The party crowd – Legian and Kuta next door are busy with nightlife and package tourists.
  • Fewer nomads than Canggu – the remote work scene is smaller, so many nomads meet people in Canggu.

The most common advice is to stay in Seminyak if you like comfort and food, and Canggu if you want the nomad scene.

Best areas in Seminyak for digital nomads

Seminyak blends into the areas around it, and each has its own feel:

  • Seminyak – the center, around Jalan Kayu Aya and the beach, with restaurants, boutiques and beach clubs.
  • Petitenget – the north end, with the temple, upscale restaurants and some of the best-known beach clubs. It's the most expensive of the four.
  • Kerobokan – inland and to the north, quieter and more residential, with villas among the rice fields.
  • Legian – to the south, between Seminyak and Kuta, busier and cheaper, with its own long beach.

Here's what a furnished month cost on Airbnb when I checked:

That's Airbnb's search for a whole home for November 2026, for one guest.

It covers 24 listings in each area, read on October 1, 2026, with each price the total for the month in dollars.

Neighboring areas share some listings, as Airbnb's map for each area reaches into the next.

Prices rise in July and August and around Christmas, Bali's busiest times.

Cost of living in Seminyak for digital nomads

A digital nomad spends about $1,200 a month in Seminyak, with a furnished place to stay.

Here's how that breaks down for one person:

WhatA month
A furnished studio or one-bedroom$798
Groceries$216
Eating out$59
Utilities and phone$43
Public transport$29
Leisure$81
Total$1,226

The rent is the cheapest quarter of the 63 different Airbnb listings I checked across the four areas.

The rest is what a one-person US household spends, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics' 2024 survey, at Indonesia's prices from the World Bank.

Coworking, insurance and flights come on top, and eating at beach clubs and smart restaurants costs far more than the model's local prices.

Where digital nomads work in Seminyak

Seminyak has a good choice of coworking spaces, and cafés that are used to laptops.

My coworking finder lists eight coworking spaces, including Lineup Hub, Kumpul Coworking Space, Biliq Seminyak, Hub Bali in Legian and Regus.

My free Wi-Fi finder has 143 spots, from cafés like Revolver Espresso and Raw to restaurants and beach bars.

Home internet is slow and drops in storms and power cuts, so coworking spaces, with fiber and backup power, are the safe choice for calls.

See them all on a map, with hours, photos and directions, in the coworking space finder and the free Wi-Fi spots finder.

Seminyak's digital nomad community

Seminyak's nomad scene is smaller than Canggu's, and many people live in Seminyak and go to Canggu for events.

Coworking spaces, gyms and yoga studios are the easiest places to meet people, and Canggu's meetups are about 20 minutes away.

Internet in Seminyak

In M-Lab's open speed tests within 25 km of Seminyak, half came in above 15 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload, and the fastest quarter of lines above 40 Mbps.

That's 177,855 download tests from September 2025 to September 2026.

The typical figure counts every line, cheap and mobile ones too; a fiber line in a good apartment or coworking space is closer to the fastest quarter.

Test yours when you get there with my internet speed test.

Is Seminyak safe for digital nomads?

I felt very safe in Seminyak.

The US State Department rates Indonesia Level 2 in its advisory of July 7, 2026, the same level it gives France, Germany and the UK.

Levels 1 and 2 are both everyday travel, and the US only asks you to reconsider a trip at Level 3.

It names the risk of natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions, demonstrations that can turn violent, and terrorism.

Its only Do Not Travel areas are the provinces of Central Papua and Highland Papua, far from Bali.

Nomads who've lived in Seminyak say the biggest daily risks are the roads and petty theft, like bag snatching from scooters, so keep your phone out of reach on the street at night.

I find that as long as you don't do anything stupid, you'll be safe in most places, but you should take precautions anywhere.

Read the full advisory before you book, as it changes.

Getting around Seminyak

Seminyak is easier to get around than Canggu, but traffic is still heavy:

  • Ride apps – Grab and Gojek for cheap scooter and car rides, and food delivery.
  • Scooters – rented by the month, but you need an international permit with a motorcycle license, and a helmet.
  • Walking – fine in central Seminyak and along the beach, though sidewalks are narrow and broken in places.
  • Drivers – a car with a driver for day trips, booked through your host or an app.
  • The airport – Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is about 12 km (7 miles) south, about 30 minutes outside rush hour.

Things to do in Seminyak

Here are the things people who live in Seminyak show visitors first:

  • Sunset on Seminyak beach – beanbags, drinks and music along the sand every evening.
  • The beach clubs – pools, music and long sunsets at the big clubs along the coast.
  • Pura Petitenget – the Hindu temple by the beach at the north end, with ceremonies on holy days.
  • Eat Street – Jalan Kayu Aya, Seminyak's restaurant strip, with food from everywhere.
  • Spas – massages and treatments at local prices, all over town.
  • Surf lessons – beginner waves at Double Six beach in Legian and on the beaches south to Kuta.

Day trips from Seminyak

The best-known day trip is Uluwatu, on the cliffs of the Bukit Peninsula, and the rest of Bali is within a few hours.

Uluwatu

Uluwatu is the clifftop end of the Bukit Peninsula, about 45 minutes south of Seminyak.

Go for the temple on the cliff at sunset, with its Kecak fire dance, and the beaches below the cliffs, like Padang Padang and Bingin.

More day trips

Each of these makes a good change from the beach:

  • Ubud – temples, rice terraces and the Sacred Monkey Forest, about an hour inland.
  • Canggu – surf, cafés and Bali's biggest nomad scene, about 20 minutes north.
  • Tanah Lot – the Hindu sea temple on a rock, about 45 minutes northwest, best at sunset.
  • Nusa Penida – the island of cliffs and coves, by fast boat from Sanur, best as an overnight trip.
  • Mount Batur – a sunrise hike up an active volcano, leaving in the middle of the night.

Visas for digital nomads in Indonesia

Indonesia has a remote worker visa, and most nomads start with a visa on arrival.

Here are the main options:

  • Visa on arrival – 30 days for many passports, including the US, the UK, Australia and most of Europe, extendable once for 30 more.
  • E33G remote worker visa – one year, for people employed by a company outside Indonesia who earn at least $60,000 a year.

Bali also charges foreign visitors a tourist levy of IDR 150,000, paid online or on arrival.

I checked these facts on September 27, 2026.

Time zone and working hours in Seminyak

Bali is on Central Indonesia Time, UTC+8, all year, the same as Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

That's seven hours ahead of London in the northern summer and eight in winter, so your afternoon is Europe's morning.

US hours are harder: New York is 12 or 13 hours behind, so calls land early in the morning or late at night.

Australia is close, with Sydney two or three hours ahead, depending on the season.

See how many working hours you'd share with your team in my time zone overlap calculator.

Air quality in Seminyak

By an estimate, the air in Seminyak carries about 11 µg/m³ of fine particles (PM2.5) over a year, 2.3 times the WHO's guideline of 5 µg/m³.

The cleanest month is December, at about 9 µg/m³, and the haziest is November.

No open air quality station is within 25 km of Seminyak, so these are estimates from Copernicus's CAMS air model for the surrounding area (an 80 km grid, 2023 to 2025, CC BY 4.0), adjusted to what stations measure elsewhere.

Take them as a guide: the model can be well off in big cities, and a measured figure replaces it once a station opens.

Final thoughts on Seminyak for digital nomads

Seminyak gives digital nomads a comfortable beach town with great food, sunsets and coworking spaces, close to the airport.

Expect the traffic, though.

Stay near the beach or Kayu Aya so you can walk to most things, and use a coworking space when a call matters.
