Everything happens in this browser, so your fonts never leave your computer. Only the file's wrapper changes: every letter, its kerning, its ligatures and any variable axes come through.
This free WOFF2 to TTF converter turns WOFF2 web fonts back into TTF or OTF fonts you can install, in your browser.
You get back exactly the font inside: every letter, kerning pair, ligature and variable axis. Nothing is uploaded.
Here's why you'd convert WOFF2 to TTF, whether you get a TTF or an OTF, and what the license allows.
Key takeaways
What is a WOFF2 to TTF converter?
A WOFF2 to TTF converter unpacks a WOFF2 web font into a TTF or OTF file, the kind computers install and design apps open.
WOFF2 is a compressed wrapper around a font's tables. Unpacking it gives back the font as it was before it was compressed.
TTF or OTF?
A font's letters are drawn with TrueType curves or PostScript ones. A WOFF2 keeps whichever the font had.
So you get a TTF for TrueType outlines and an OTF for PostScript ones, the font exactly as it was. Both install on Windows and Mac.
What comes through
A font file is a wrapper around tables: the letters' outlines, the spacing between pairs (kerning), ligatures, a variable font's axes, and hinting for small sizes.
This converter only changes the wrapper, so every table comes back. I checked it table by table on six fonts with fontTools, the standard font toolkit:
- WOFF – every table came back byte for byte.
- WOFF2 – every letter and every table, but the digital signature (DSIG), which the WOFF2 standard drops, as every WOFF2 tool does.
Nothing is redrawn, so the letters look exactly as their designer made them.
Check the license first
Many fonts are licensed for the web and for desktop use separately, so a web font license may not let you install the font.
Open fonts, like Google Fonts', allow both. The converter shows each font's own license line, with its link, before you download.
Nothing is uploaded
The converter runs in your browser, so a font you paid for never leaves your computer. There's no size limit but your computer's memory.
The first WOFF2 conversion downloads the engine, about 1 MB. After that it starts at once.
What it can't do
Some changes are more than a new wrapper:
- TTF to OTF, or OTF to TTF – that means redrawing every curve, which changes the font. You get back the outlines the font has.
- EOT and SVG fonts – formats only very old browsers used.
- Removing letters – making a font smaller by keeping only the letters you use (subsetting) isn't here yet.
For those, a desktop font editor like FontForge does the job.
Who is the WOFF2 to TTF converter for?
It's for anyone who needs a web font on their computer:
- DESIGN.md generator – designers matching a site's type in their files
- Website to HTML converter – developers studying a page's design
- Website screenshot – people saving a design to compare fonts
- Compress image – anyone preparing a site's files
Designers use it to mock up a site with its real fonts.

- TTF to WOFF2 – web fonts about half the size
- DESIGN.md generator – your fonts and colors as a design file for AI
- Compress image – the other half of a fast page
They're all free, in your browser, with no watermark.
