A name that breaks a platform's rules is capped at 40, since you can't register it there. A platform I can't check counts as half free until you open its chip and see.
How I check if a name is free
For GitHub, YouTube and TikTok, I read the profile page itself: a missing page means the name is free. For .com, I ask the registry that runs .com.
