- State the goal clearly, then expect working code, not a plan: "if details are missing, make reasonable assumptions" and carry it through implementation, tests and a short explanation.
- Name the files, the behavior wanted, and how to verify it (the tests or commands to run).
- Tell it to follow the codebase's existing patterns, helpers, naming and formatting, and to reuse helpers before adding new ones.
- Fix root causes; surface errors instead of broad try/catch blocks or silent defaults.
- In a repo with other changes: never revert changes it didn't make, and no destructive git commands without asking.
- No ALL CAPS emphasis and no conflicting instructions; over-specifying hurts.
- Skip asking for a plan on simple tasks; for bigger ones, a plan that's updated as items finish.
- Repo-wide rules belong in AGENTS.md (read from the repo root down to the working folder).
- Format: plain task prose with file paths in backticks and the check to run.
