This free deep work tracker counts your deep work hours by week, the way Cal Newport kept score.

Every session you run in the deep work timer lands here as a tally mark, with a circle for each milestone you ship. There's no daily streak to break.

Here's why you track deep hours, how the tracker works, and what the patterns tell you.

What is a deep work tracker?

A deep work tracker records how many hours of focused, distraction-free work you do. Newport tracked his on a card by his monitor, with a row per week and a tick per hour.

It's the "compelling scoreboard" from The 4 Disciplines of Execution, which Newport adapts in Deep Work.

Why track hours and not tasks?

In the 4 Disciplines, a lead measure is something you control that drives the result. Newport picked deep hours as his.

Tasks done is a lag measure: it tells you what happened, too late to change it. Hours are the part you can change this week.

Why there are no streaks

A daily streak punishes the 1 day that was full of meetings. Weekly hours don't.

Slow Productivity makes the same case: work at a natural pace you can keep, not in bursts that burn you out.

Your data stays yours

You can also copy deep-work.md, a summary your own AI can read before it helps you plan.

Final thoughts on tracking deep work

What you count is what grows. Count deep hours by week, and let the rest follow.

Run a session in the timer, and your first tally mark appears here.
