Question 1

What is a pomodoro timer?

Accepted Answer

A pomodoro timer breaks your work into focused intervals, usually 25 minutes, with short breaks between them.

This one is a 3D tomato kitchen timer that counts your pomodoros and switches to the breaks for you.

Question 2

Why is it called the Pomodoro Technique?

Accepted Answer

Pomodoro is Italian for tomato.

Francesco Cirillo named the method after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer he used as a university student in the late 1980s.

After four pomodoros, you take a long break of 20 to 30 minutes.

Accepted Answer

Pick Classic, Long focus or Short sprint in Settings, or set any length from 1 to 60 minutes.

Does the pomodoro timer work in the background?

Accepted Answer

Yes.

The bell is scheduled on your browser's audio clock, so it rings on time even when the tab is in the background.

Question 6

Can I play music while I work?

Accepted Answer

Yes.

The Sound tab has focus music and steady noises like brown noise and rain, the same ones as my deep work timer.

Question 7

What should I do if I'm interrupted during a pomodoro?

Accepted Answer

Press Interrupted? and write the interruption down for later, then get back to your task.

If it truly can't wait, void the pomodoro and start a fresh one when you're back.

Question 8

Is the pomodoro timer free?

Accepted Answer

Yes.

It's free, with no account and no ads, and your tasks and stats stay in your browser.

Question 9

What's the difference between pomodoro and deep work?

Accepted Answer

Pomodoros are short intervals with frequent breaks, good for tasks you can split up.

Deep work is a longer block on one hard problem, and my deep work timer plans those sessions.

Question 10

Accepted Answer

I'm Navid Moazzez, and I made the pomodoro timer as one of my free tools on navid.me.
