Paste your release
Fix it
This free press release checker reads any release you paste and shows what a reporter would cut, before you send it.
It finds the parts every release needs, flags hype and the first person, and can rewrite the release with only the facts already in it. There's no account.
What is a press release checker?
A press release checker is a tool that reads a release the way a busy reporter does, and marks what gets in the way.
The checks run in your browser as you paste. Only the rewrite uses AI.
What it checks
| Check | What it looks for |
|---|---|
| Dateline | The city and the date at the start of the first paragraph |
| Quote | At least one quote, with someone saying it |
| Boilerplate | An "About" paragraph near the end |
| Media contact | A name and a way to reach them |
| Third person | We, our or I outside a quote |
| Hype | Words reporters cut, like industry-leading and "excited to announce" |
| Lede | A first paragraph over 70 words |
| Length | Under 150 words or over 600 |
The parts and the numbers come from measuring PR Newswire's 20 most popular releases of 2025 against 137 everyday ones. 84% of the most-read had a quote, and 79% ended with a boilerplate.
A real release, checked
Here's what it finds in Cision's own release of its 2025 State of the Media report (PR Newswire, May 7, 2025).
Every part is there: the headline, the dateline, a quote with its speaker, the boilerplate and the contact. At 501 words, the length is right.
It marks 2 things. The boilerplate is in the first person ("We equip PR and corporate communications…"), and the body calls the report's insight "unparalleled".
Rewrite it
Press Rewrite it and the release comes back with the fixes: a shorter headline, a one-sentence lede, the third person, and no hype.
It keeps the dateline, every number and every speaker. A quote can come back reworded, so have each speaker approve their words before you send.
Who is the press release checker for?
It's for anyone who has a release in hand and wants it picked up:
- Press release generator – people starting from their facts instead
- Press release headline generator – anyone whose headline needs work
- Media pitch generator – people ready to send it to a reporter
