The page is read on my server, since a browser can't read another site's page. Its article is found, written as Markdown with full addresses for links and pictures, and sent back. Nothing is saved.

Here's what it does, how it did against Jina Reader and MarkItDown on real pages, and what it can't read.
What is a URL to Markdown converter?
A URL to Markdown converter reads a web page and writes its content as Markdown, the plain text format with # for headings and | for tables.
This one keeps the article and leaves out the menus, ads and footers around it.
Why Markdown
Markdown keeps a page's structure in plain text. A heading stays a heading, a list stays a list, and a table stays a table.
Copied text loses all of that, and raw HTML buries it in tags. That's why AI apps and note apps take Markdown so well.
Compared with Jina Reader and MarkItDown
I converted the same 3 pages with each on September 29, 2026, and counted what came through:
- Wikipedia's Markdown article
- 15 of 16 headings, 3 tables
- MDN's guide to fetch()
- 19 of 20 headings, 22 of 23 code blocks, each with its language
- Menus and page chrome
- Left out
Jina Reader- Wikipedia's Markdown article
- 2 of 16 headings, 1 table
- MDN's guide to fetch()
- 18 of 20 headings, no code blocks at all
- Menus and page chrome
- Left out
MarkItDown- Wikipedia's Markdown article
- Couldn't open it: Wikipedia answered 403
- MDN's guide to fetch()
- 20 of 20 headings, 23 code blocks, none with a language
- Menus and page chrome
- All of the page, menus included
Jina Reader dropped every code example from MDN's guide, and 14 of Wikipedia's 16 section headings. MarkItDown converts all of the page, menus and all, and Wikipedia turned it away.
On Paul Graham's essay, a page of plain paragraphs, all three came out much the same.
How I tested
The headings to find were each article's own section headings, taken from the page's HTML.
The Wikipedia headings came back because this converter clears the edit links first. Next to each heading, they make it look like a box of links, and article finders drop it.
What it can't read
Some pages don't hand their article to a reader like this one:
- Pages behind a login or a paywall – it reads what anyone signed out sees.
- Pages drawn by scripts – a page that's blank until its code runs comes back nearly empty.
- Sites that turn readers away – some answer every automated visit with an error.
