That's the same example Upwork's own help page uses: a 10% fee on $500 pays you $450.
How to set your Upwork rate
Start from what you want to keep, then add the fee. At a 10% fee, billing about $1,111.11 nets $1,000. The freelance rate calculator works out the rate your costs and time off need.
Upwork alternatives
Fiverr is another freelance marketplace, with its own fees. Clients you find yourself can pay you directly, and then only the payment fee comes off. Bill them with the invoice generator.
