Question 1

What is a favicon generator?

Accepted Answer

A favicon generator turns your logo into the small icons browsers and phones show for your site.

This one makes the ICO, the Apple and Android icons, the manifest and the HTML.

Question 2

What size should a favicon be?

Accepted Answer

A favicon.ico holds 16, 32 and 48 px, and Google recommends a favicon bigger than 48 px.

The generator adds a 96 px PNG for that, and 180, 192 and 512 px icons for phones.

Question 3

Where do I put the favicon files?

Accepted Answer

Put them in your site's main folder, next to your home page.

Then paste the HTML the generator writes into your page's head.

Question 4

Can I use an SVG as a favicon?

Accepted Answer

Yes, most browsers show an SVG favicon, sharp at any size.

Drop an SVG and the generator includes it, with the ICO as the fallback.

Question 5

Why doesn't my new favicon show?

Accepted Answer

Browsers keep a favicon for a while.

A hard reload, or opening the site in a private window, shows the new one.

Question 6

Is the favicon generator free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the favicon generator is free, with no account and no limit.

It runs in your browser, so it costs nothing to run.

Question 7

Are my logos uploaded?

Accepted Answer

No, the favicon generator works in your browser.

Your logos never leave your computer.

Question 8
