What is a JPG to AVIF converter?

Why convert JPG to AVIF?
AVIF is the newest image format for the web, and every current browser shows it. It usually holds the same photo in less space than JPG.
A JPG was already compressed once, so converting can't bring back detail. The score shows how close each AVIF stayed to the JPG you dropped.

I converted the same JPG files here and with CloudConvert, at each one's default settings. Then I scored every result against its original:

CloudConvert made smaller files by keeping much less: its AVIFs scored 41.0 to 60.0, where the loss shows at a glance. This converter's scored 76.5 to 80.3.
Against the JPGs themselves, this converter's AVIFs were 10% to 44% smaller. The 29-megapixel photo, full of fur and camera noise, shrank the least.
How I tested
I tested on September 29, 2026. The JPGs were a 29-megapixel golden retriever photo, the same photo at 6 megapixels, and a dark 6-megapixel portrait.
The score is SSIMULACRA 2, a metric from Cloudinary that compares two pictures the way your eye does:
