What is a signature background remover?
A signature background remover takes the paper out of a photo or scan of your signature, and leaves only the ink.
You get a transparent PNG you can put on any document, over any line.
The example is Udham Singh's signature, a public domain scan from Wikimedia Commons.
A phone photo, not a scanner
A phone lights paper unevenly: bright in one corner, gray in another. Most tools turn that gray into a smudge around your signature.
This one finds the paper's color at every point first, and turns it even white. Then it takes it out, so a shadow across the page doesn't read as ink.
Crisp ink
Pick Black or Blue, and all of the ink turns that color with its edges kept soft. A pale ballpoint looks like a fresh pen.
Or keep its own color, as you wrote it.
How close it gets
It doesn't use an AI model: it works from the colors. Here's how far each cutout was from the see-through original:

On the signature, the AI models my image background remover uses were more than 3 times as far off. Cutting out by color also took a fraction of a second.
How I tested
I tested on September 29, 2026, with pictures where the right answer is known. I made each one from a see-through original, then scored both cutouts against that original.
The number is the mean error in see-through: 0% is a perfect copy. Lower is better.
I also ran the signature page of the US Constitution through it, a public domain photo of stained parchment. Every signature came through, and only a sliver of the torn edge stayed.
How it works
It works in 4 steps, all from the colors:

| Level the paper | A signature's paper is turned even white, so a shadow in one corner doesn't read as ink |
| Work out the ink | How far each pixel is from the background tells how much ink covers it, so soft edges stay soft and letter holes stay open |
| Clean the colors | The background's tint comes out of every edge pixel, so there's no white halo on a dark page |
